Friday is here, and so are we. (You. are there, right?) The bars are open, and folks are having a swell time. Here’s a piece of information that should have the word DUH hung on it. Memorial Day was May 26th, precisely 14 days later (yesterday) the number of Covid-19 cases here in Austin reached a new high point.
Here is another DUH statement. The stock market took a dive yesterday because of growing fears of increased Coronavirus cases.
So what did everyone expect? The most effective way of avoiding contracting the virus is to stay away from people. Gather together, and guess what’s going to happen?
The protests will help to ramp the cases as well. All this should come as no surprise to anyone.
Today’s JohnKu gives a hint on staying safe. I hope you all have a great weekend.

Cases decline but,
Start up again when open . . .
Stay away, wear masks.
Perfect JohnKu! It almost seems like the months of lock down was all for nothing…sigh. On a happier note…Happy Friday!

I think I’m here. Maybe I’m not. It’s been one of those weeks. With covid, I’m still running into people who think it isn’t a big deal. Going to be a really interesting summer.

Maybe the warm weather will help. Thanks, Charles.

Actually, it might have made it worse. I keep dozing off and waking up unsure of how long I’ve been out.

I’m dreading summer, as Cornwall is going to get hit harder than usual with the tourist influx, given that a lot of folks are not going abroad this year. Ugh. Already, our infection rate is up and climbing. Does anyone fancy joining me in digging a bunker?!?
Have a good weekend, John and all 🙂

I have a cement truck standing by. Of course, getting it to Cornwell might take some doing. Have a good weekend, Harmony. 😁

I dread to think where this is going, John. For myself, apart from walking the dogs and necessary visits to the pharmacy, I’m staying indoors and currently gathering together some of my earlier stories into a volume for publication.

Our area is a tourist site and crowds are everywhere. Very few people wear masks and it appears that everything is open. I just hope the worst is past…and not ahead of us. Your Haiku captures the tensions of the day. Happy Friday, John.

I’m wondering if we’re going to end up back in complete lockdown.

I don’t think the authorities will be able to take that backstep. People aren’t listening. Thanks, Liz.

I guess the best thing we can do, then, is to stay well-informed with what the epidemiologists are saying.

I think this pandemic is highlighting a well documented but seldom acknowledged fact: PEOPLE ARE STUPID! Not all of course, just those with the herd mentality.

I went out for groceries earlier this week and was disappointed to see I was in the minority on wearing a mask. Our cases here are rising, but we’ve also had a lot more testing. Have a great weekend, John!

THe amount of people being admitted to the hospital is the telling statistic, Teri. Those numbers are through the roof. Enjoy the sun and surf and that frozen drink melting in your hand.

People seem to think this works like a light switch. COVID is still out there. I’ve read stories of bush people when there is a man eater about, and surprisingly, they do the same thing. Then they act shocked when the critter feeds again.

Good analogy, Craig.

So what is wrong with keeping the curve flat ? If you go out wear a mask. Keep the EMS and emergency room workers mostly bored.

Too bad folks can’t get this simple principle.

Oh, dear. As one of the latter states to reopen (we’ve still got lots of restrictions in place), we’re seeing a decline in cases — but sadly, I think that gives people “courage” (or stupidity) to think everything’s okay again and COVID was just a huge hoax. I’ve never been fond of crowds, so they don’t have to tell me twice to stay home. Enjoy your weekend, John!

I’m here … well, at least partly here … I’m never completely anywhere these days, for my mind seems to have gone off on its own. Yes, I said the other day the only thing that amazes me about the uptick in new cases (and new deaths) is that so many people are surprised by it. The experts have warned of this, but apparently people would rather listen to the idiots who have no clue what they’re talking about and just want to get money flowing again. Sigh … the world is filled with fools. For my part, I’m staying home except for a weekly trip to the grocery. I have no desire to be in a crowd spending money that I can ill afford. Have a great weekend, John! Pet the pups for me!

Can I say how happy I am to have a pool in my yard? People are angry and fed up and getting more and more happy-go-lucky with the wearing of masks, the distancing, etc. I’m quite happy avoiding them all and inviting close friends who are not insane.
Happy Friday to you!

Yip, people are pretty stupid sometimes, John. I saw a video of protesting on Hollywood Boulevard; it was like a river of people. I also though that your cases are bound to increase now. All the people were on top of each other.

Good one, John! I’m not the least bit surprised. I expect the numbers in Florida to increase if they haven’t already. Too many people here are acting like it’s all over. They’re going to have a rude awakening when November/December comes around. Have a safe and healthy weekend!

We have another week until we get to our “green” phase. I worry about what will follow with increased cases. At the same time I long for a semi-normal environment (I don’t think it will ever return to “before” status). A tough balancing act.
Stay safe, John, and have a great weekend!

It’s so hard when we have our leaders telling us one thing and doing another. I did attend an outdoor music festival. They took every precaution for a safe venue, but who the heck knows. Love the JohnKu!

You also have to factor in that more testing is going on – like here in NC. Our cases have increased as our testing increased.

The number to look at is the number admitted to the hospital. Positive tests are one thing critical symptoms are another.
