“Hey, what’s all this stuff, Dad.”
“I’m installing a Nest doorbell.”
“A doorbell for birds? Can’t their visitors knock?”
“It is not for a bird’s nest. That’s the name of the product.”
“You people have some strange names for things.”
“I think you are right, Little One. I didn’t name it, though.”
“Okay, Boss. What did I miss?”
Nothing, Lucy. Well, maybe a funny comment by Twiggy.”
You going up on that Ladder, Boss?”
“Yup. The ringer is way up there.”
“Gee, Dad. That is almost out of sight.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.”
“What’s the doorbell for anyway?”
“So we can keep track of who comes to the door.”
“I would think you could look out the window for that.”
“You are right, Twiggy. This gives us a video record of who has been to the front door.”
“This ladder tastes funny. Why do you need a record?”
“It is a matter of safety. Let’s say someone tries to break in. We will have a way for the police to identify them.”
“Other than the large bite mark on their backside, you mean?”
“Let’s just say we think it’s a good idea.”
“Okay, Lucy. I’ve heard enough. Let’s go play. Man, that ladder tastes funny.”
“So, you don’t need us chasing burglars around the house, Boss.”
“We’ll save you two for bigger stuff, okay?” Like lions and bears.”
“Oh my.”
The only downside we’ve found to our Ring video doorbell is being told by the speaker beside the bed that there’s movement at the front door when the milkman arrives (Monday and Thursday mornings, anytime between 2am and 4am).

We have ours on mute and capture video for after the incident incident. You still have a milkman? Pretty cute alright.

Ah, but this is the 21st century, John. No question of the milkman calling around for money every Saturday like in the 50s qnd 60s. We pay by weekly direct debit, now.

I don’t think we could find a milkman if our lives depended upon it. 😊

Glad your “nest” is secure, John. Great photos! I love the last shot of Twiggy’s tongue!

I didn’t know it was there until I increased the size for edits. She is sneaky that way. Thank you, Jill. 😊

I know a few people with that. They all love it. Have fun figuring it out. That’s apparently half the fun.

Yes there are a large number of settings and alerts. The installation was guided by the Google app and very easy. Thanks, Charles.

The cool thing about these doorbells is all the great action they’ve been capturing of people doing good deeds. Good thing you have the girls to keep watch over you – till they’re busy at doing other stuff, that is!

Great dialogue, John. Lions and bears? I’d install one of those things too. In our area, I think the most we’d find are a few foxes and deer. The armadillos might visit, but they are shy. Then there’s the wondering turtle. Gosh, our area sounds pretty boring next to yours. 😀

We turned off the motion feature since the deer ale always walking by. Thanks, Gwen.

You’ll be able to catch those pesky porch pirates too.

Yes there are a few around here. We tend to leave packages out there too long. We call it our quarantine area. 😁

I say, dear John! I hope a new Nest Doorbell will function perfectly. Twiggy & Lucy are perfect assistants. It looks like they instruct you how to fix it properly: Twiggy shows with her tongue, while Lucy with her thoughtful wise expression. 🙂 May The Twiggy Resort be safier from squirrels, deer & other odd creatures. 🙂 🙂 🙂

The wildlife can now rest. easy. We won’t bother them and they won’t bother us. Thanks, Maria. Twiggy and Lucy wee a big help.

Ha! Twiggy tasting the ladder slays me, John. I agree with her that it’s a long way up. But hey, it’s blue! And pretty yellow tools.

I thought about getting a video doorbell when a package was stolen from in front of my door. I live in an apartment building. So far, I’ve done nothing toward that, but it’s still in the back of my mind. I love the girls’ attitudes about it. Yep, a burglar better wear backside padding!!

Thank you, Jan. The thing is more of a deterrent. It sits there and when someone approaches a blue light goes on. Not sure a thief would want to be captured on video.

Well, at first I thought maybe they wanted to help, but I see the taste of the ladder turned Twiggy off, LOL. Video doorbells are wonderful. We use RING, and also have cameras on our porch and deck out back. Good luck with the installation and careful on the ladder!

all installed. I like the camera idea too, Mae. Our yard is totally privacy fenced at the six foot level and the two gates are locked but you never know. I was thinking of getting a couple too. Thaks for the visit. I hope all is well with you. 😊

Wonderful idea, but I’m not sure I’d want to scale that ladder to install it! You be careful, John. Loved the comment about the girls biting intruders on their backside — and I can’t imagine anybody trying to sneak into a house guarded by two watchdogs!

So funny. We had someone come to the door and then when they saw Twggy and Lucy they said, “Wrong house,” and left. Very suspicious.

I have the least expensive security system there is … I live in a relatively poor neighborhood (it wasn’t when we moved here 22 years ago, but has gone downhill since) where it’s obvious that nobody has much worth stealing, so the burglars just go elsewhere! Pets to Twiggy & Lucy!!!

LOL! Twiggy tasty the ladder is hilarious. I hope she got a nice treat to get that taste out of her mouth.
Baby Girl and the Handsom Surveyor have Ring and they scared me to death with it when I was staying over there watching #1 Grandson while they were away on a holiday last year. #1 and I were just heading outside to play when I heard someone calling me from the porch…where no one should have been! Her voice didn’t sound like hers over it so it was a bit unsettling hearing someone calling me. She really got me with that gadget! 😀

We have video cameras too, John. Four of them. We also have movement sensors in the garden an electric fence and steel bars on every window and door. SA is a war zone. We have 58 murders a day and 114 rapes. I looked it up the other day for another purpose.

I’m so sorry to hear that, Robbie. We take law and order for granted. With the latest discontent here that may be something that will change. These are not the best of times.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I think the discontent has a lot to do with the job losses brought about by the coronavirus, John. People who aren’t working are not happy and “the Devil makes work for idle hands” is an old saying. We have exactly the same thing starting to happen here, and ironically, our protests are also starting as the lockdown loosens.
