Views of the Neighborhood – Kinetic Sculptures

Today we are going to visit the kinetic sculpture garden in Lakeway. The sculptures were done by kinetic artist Joe LaPaso to reflect Lakeway in motion. The Lakeway Arts Committee is responsible for the installation.

Views of the neighborhood

A view of the esplanade where the sculptures are installed.

The first sculpture. You will note the powerlines since we are in the original section of Lakeway. This sculpture is hard to visualize in a photo.

Here is a video which will let you see it in motion

A shot of Mexican sage just finishing its bloom.

The next sculpture. Hard to see in the wires. I could not take a shot from the other direction since it was right into the sun.

Another video of the motion.

far away shot of the third sculpture

A little closer.

And now in motion

A view of the esplanade from the other end.

Old live oak trees

As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.

I hope you enjoyed our walk around the kinetic sculpture garden. Have a great week.

  3. So very cool, John. And great idea to include the videos so we can see them in movement. It sounds awful hot, too…

    1. It is hot. Was 98 degrees yesterday and going to 101 today. I’m glad you liked the videos. I finally put on my big boy shorts and figured out how to ones I took up on the site. Have a beautiful day, Dale.

      1. I’m pretty proud of you, John… Yet another reason I can’t call you an Old Fart 😉
I’m sitting at work, looking at the clouds doing their thing, praying for rain – not that I don’t want to be working…whistles innocently…

  4. Hello John. Kinetic sculptures are new to me too. They look strange – a like out of science fiction.

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Yes they are strange. When you are standing looking at them it almost feels like the ground is moving. I also like how the sun hits the stainless steel and glass. 😊

  5. Thanks for including the videos, John. It was hard to imagine what they might look like when moving. I love that last oak tree.

I hope you’re having a nice easy weekend.

  6. I’ve never seen kinetic sculptures before…interesting. I wonder what the birds think of them? Those old oaks are incredible. Thanks for the walk in the park, John. Enjoy your Sunday.

    1. Thank you Jill. I think the birds are smart enough to avoid them. I don’t think they would get hurt but just doesn’t look like something they would like. Have a great Sunday, Jill.

      1. I hope any other hurricanes around are like this – we barely got any rain and only minor gusts. The weather reports have us barely surviving, but thunderstorms are 10x worse than this!! The sun has been out already today!! 😊

  9. I really enjoy kinetic sculptures. They remind me of Miro’s mobiles. I can’t remember seeing any that incorporated colored glass. I’m glad you took the trouble to capture these for us — they’re fun to see.

  11. How I love that last photo! I can so see me climbing onto that branch — perhaps with a good book — and hibernating there all day! These kinetic structures are most interesting, too, and I appreciate all the effort you put into getting them for us. The videos give them life!!

    1. Thank you, Debbie. I enjoyed doing it. There was a Mockingbird hopping around on that tree and the little devil would not sit still for a picture.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yes, that is what it is. We are very lucky to have a lot of it. We do get dust from our friends in Africa but usually it is like you see in the photo. I always thought there was big sky in Australia.
