Stream of Conscious Saturday – Prompt – “Spot.”

Stream of Consciousness

It is Stream of Consciousness Saturday time again, and here to explain this week’s prompt is Linda Hill. “Thanks, John. Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “spot.” Write whatever image the word “spot” invokes. Have fun!”

If you would like to join in on the fun, visit Linda’s blog and read how. Here is the link.

“Out damn spot.”

“What’s up?”

“I spilled this bottle of grape soda on the white carpet.”

“Hmmm. Looks like you will need a new carpet.”

“No way. This is a new carpet.”

“With a big purple stain on it.”

“I’m going to try some white wine.”

“Good idea. maybe you will forget about the stain.”

“You idiot. I’m going to put the wine on the stain. I heard that’s what you do when you spill red wine.”

“This is not red wine. This is grape soda. The devil’s own brew for stains.”

“Give me a hand, will you.”

“Sure. What kind of wine is this.”

“Carlo Rossi in a gallon jug. Why?”

“I think you may want to test this on a small piece of carpet first.”

“Why’s that.”

“By the smell of this stuff, it could eat right through the stain and the floor.”

“Very funny. I drink it all the time.”

“Says the man who just dopped a bottle of grape soda on his new white carpet.”

“Very funny.”

“What happened did you have a temporary paralysis?”

“No, the bottle was icy, and it slipped out of my hand. What difference does it make how it happened. It happened.”

“Okay, okay. Ease back on the panic button. Here let me pour some of this wine on the stain.”

“Not too much. I don’t want the place smelling like a wine cellar.”

“Oh, for heaven’s sake. You have no choice. This was your remedy, after all.”

“Oh, look, I think it is working.”

“If you like the mauve color, it is.”

“Ah, it’s no use. The carper is ruined.”

“You could have it dyed purple.”

“Another fine suggestion from the peanut gallery. Give me that wine.”

“What are you going to do?”

“Take a slug, of course.”

“Don’t Bogart that jug, my friend. Pass it here.”

“This is not so bad.”

“I think the purple haze makes everything better.”

“Cool color.”

“Love the splash.”

  1. Haha! I’m guessing there was no option of moving furniture to cover said spot! 😉
    Always fun dialogue you provide!

  2. LOL! Great job, John. I hope this wasn’t based on a true story. Happy Saturday!

    1. We had a cream colored carpet in the living room. Long story short I kicked over a cup of coffee and that was the end of carpet. Happy Saturday to you, Jill * sung to the tune of Sunny Days by Lighthouse.

      1. Eek! I had a feeling this wasn’t totally fiction. Believe me…I’ve been there. I had to Google this song. Great one, John! The video was funny. 🙂

  5. Just don’t try kissing the sky, John. Nice take on the prompt. I was worried that you might try to implicate Lucy & Twiggy.

Enjoy the wine, maybe step up to a slightly better vintage. Take care.

    1. Lucy and Twiggy would be long gone in this senario. They avoid trouble like the plague. Have a super weekend. See you at the bar.

  6. Ha ha! What makes it even funnier is that grape soda is a particularly vile beverage.

  7. And the moral of the story is . . . I enjoyed that post, John. I had a pink carpet once which I loved. But everyday I examined it for stains and I could never relax. I got a wooden floor after that.

LOL. Great dialogue and story, John. Being the practical type, I always choose carpets or rugs with multiple shades. But if there were a notable spill, I’d probably rethink my furniture arrangement. 😀

    1. We do the same, Gwen. Yes furnature can help. Enjoy the weekend. 😁

  9. We had party in our house with cream colored carpet. We learned never to serve red wine at a party — especially to people who talk with their hands.

  11. Yep! It’s best to just roll with it. 🙂 Purple Haze carpet may not be too bad. And you could always put a piece of furniture or rug over it. 🙂

  17. They should’ve saved the wine to celebrate the spot’s removal AFTER using that stuff they advertise on TV. Oxi-Clean, or something like that. Supposed to work wonders … and who wants to waste good wine on a carpet stain?!?

My aunt had a pristine white carpet that we only got to walk on at Christmas in socked feet. I don’t think any sodas got near that carpet lol. Good prompt, John.

  19. Cheap wine can turn out to be very expensive, I mean first, there’s new carpet and then there’s the medical expenses when the wife gets home, plus the bail money! Loved this take on ‘spot’, John! 😁

  20. That was fun! And now I have an image of Boones Farm wine in my head, LOL.

As for the carpet, my aunt once spilled a full pan of lasagna on my sister’s brand new cream-colored carpet. We still talk about that, thirty years later 🙂

  22. Oh dear, John, this sounds quite factual. I did this when I was a teenager. Of course, the carpet was my parents. We also tried to get the stain out. Hmmm! Didn’t work for us either.

  25. Buahaha! So the two options are to dye the rug or to drink enough wine that you don’t notice the stain. I’m going with the latter.
