Views of the Neighborhood – Potpourri Part Two

Yes, again this week some random shots that have nothing in common.

Views of the neighborhood

At least I’m not going to ask you to walk around. We will take the Bentley Turbo Convertable dealer loaner for a spin. So grab a water and we’ll be off.

Views of the neighborhood

This is a shot of Lake Travis in a drought condition. The water is usually up to the sand and rocks in the foreground. Rain needed.

Views of the neighborhood

I couldn’t pass up a photo of First World trash. A grill waiting for trash pickup always strikes me as unusual.

Views of the neighborhood

Most will remember the photo of the steel cactus a few weeks back. It looks like the lack of rain got to it too. (I know, weird joke)

Views of the Neighborhood

What better thing to give as a present but a Mercedes Sedan. Personally, I would rather have a Bentley.

I have to explain this one. Those are downspouts and gutters which have been painted and are waiting to be reinstalled. This house used to be an unsightly color of brick and the owners decided to paint it themselves.  I’m glad they waited for 100-degree weather to begin the project. I expect to see two heatstroke victims at some time.

This is a very sad photo. This big ole ape is crying out for a new owner. Seems like an ignoble ending for such a giving toy.

Views of the neighborhood

This one I can’t explain. Yes, that is a baby bottle nipple waiting for its owner to claim it. There is a pretty ruffled turkey making sure that whoever claims the nipple is the rightful owner. A few beads are also up for grabs.

Well, that’s it for this week. Thanks for coming along and I guess we learned that this Bentley is not big enough for all of us. Maybe a big yellow bus next time. We can put a jug of margaritas in the back.

Chips and salsa too. Have a great week.

Thanks for the early morning venture, John. The photo of the stuffed ape reminded me of my granddaughter’s collection. I suspect it took months of negotiations and plenty of tears for the faithful ape to leave someone’s embrace. 😀

  4. I think I might have done a little dumpster diving to save that poor ape. Why not donate it to an underprivileged child. Save me a seat on that bus please…it’s been a rough month!

  5. The big ape does look sad. We had to do that once. A “friend” gave our daughter a best that was way bigger than she was. We kept it as long as we could, but…🙁

We got some of the rain we need yesterday, but not enough. I hope you get some soon. We could wait in the bus, with margaritas until you’re ready to leave next Sunday.

I hope you have a good week, John.

    1. Thak you, Dan. I hope you have a great week as well. I need to figure out a restroom for the bus for sure.

      1. Well, as I said to my wife when she asked if my sailboat had a restroom – “it has a men’s room.” – Yeah, we sold the boat.

  7. I love these random shots. But I would have had to take the big old monkey home, or given it to someone who needed a friend. xo

  8. I never could have left that stuffed monkey. At minimum, I would have pulled it out to check out its nether regions. There might have been some damage that’s not visible in the photo — less-disciplined friends of Lucy and Twiggy could have done it in.

  9. This was a more unusual ride around the neighborhood today, John. The roadside salvagers are going to love picking up that grill, but the stuffed ape is a sad one. I have never seen a turkey puff out his chest quite so far, but then again he is protecting baby nipple.
PS. I’m all for the margaritas!!!!!

  16. John, I didn’t realize y’all have been so dry, too. That photo of the lake is worrisome. Sure, you’ll eventually get some needed rain, but in the meantime … and with all that heat…. Could that Benz be a graduation present? Or a wedding present? Perhaps somebody won the lottery! And yes, the stuffed animal in the trash is heart-breaking. I hope the “child” it was bought for merely slipped off to college or to married life, rather than the Rainbow Bridge.

I always thought cactus did well in drought conditions. My daughter gave me one for my birthday, I will keep it hydrated. I never like to see drought lakes, hope you get some rain soon. Thanks for the ride in the Bentley:)

  22. The stuffed ape made me think of a doll I once had. One of Mom’s sisters found it in a trash can. It was missing a leg, but she got it, cleaned it up, and gave it to me. One leg or not, I had many happy years with my Suzie!

  24. Okay, first, the Mercedes with the big white bow, that’s such an American cliche! I didn’t think that sort of thing happened in real life!

Second, the garbage ape made me so damn sad. Let’s hope some neighbourhood kid walking past rescued him.

Third, that stone turkey’s face says it all about that nipple.

Fourth, American neighbourhoods are waaaay more fun than Aussie!

    1. Cliche for sure, Jessica. Still happens in real life. I made up a story in my head that the guy got caught with a girlfriend.. Tha Ape was the saddest thing. Was an icon for kid sadness as well. The turkey know where that nipple came from I’m sure. He wants no part of it. I do enjoy our neighborhood. Thanks for the comments.

      1. If I didn’t fear for my life outside the gates of our retirement village, I’d take snaps of our neighbourhood… the crack houses, the ghettos… fun stuff.
Okay, it’s not THAT bad. But we do live in a really old part of town that used to have a bad rep. It’s starting to get nicer as ppl buy the older houses and fix them up. Plus, the gated village where we actually live is like a little oasis of beauty.

  28. I thought it looked more like a Sloth than an ape but it was sad to see in any case. Still scratching my head over the big bottle nipple…that was weird.

I’m in on that bus with margarita’s, chips, and salsa for the next tour. 😀

  29. I do enjoy this views of the neighborhood feature, John. I didn’t know people actually bought cars as gifts and put big bows on them. We talk about that a lot at my house, especially during the holidays when it seems as if every spouse or partner is giving each other a luxury sedan or SUV. As for that poor ape in the trash – who would have it sticking out like that – kind of creepy!

  33. The turkey looking ruffled and the giant stuffed ape were classic. I loved this neighborhood drive. John, you gotta drive a Bentley Turbo and take photos. Just go to a dealer and pretend you want to buy a car… I know, I couldn’t do that either. But you could be honest and tell the dealer you are a famous author and blogger and need the drive in the Bentley.
