Friday JohnKu – AKA – TGIF

“Why are you at the door?”
“I think Friday is in there.”
“Little one. Friday is a day, not a being. Friday is everywhere.”
“Yeah, isn’t it great?”

Here we are having arrived at Friday again. I hope you all had a super week. I have been touring with some of the best bloggers. It has been an exciting experience. I suddenly realize why I only publish one book every 18 months. This is a lot of work. I also feel so much gratitude for those who have volunteered to host me and especially for those who continually stop to comment. I get a real sense of Family with this process.

Come the 30th of September, and all this tour stuff will be done. Then on to the dreaded AMS (Amazon Marketing System) for some fun with ads. I was so confused this week I put the TGIF moniker on the Wednesday Hump Day post. All of you were so gracious in not mentioning it.

Today’s JohnKu talks about promoting a new book. I hope you have a relaxing weekend and a good one next week.

Promotion by John W. Howell © 2020

The last word spoken,

When the journey is over . . .

Never “promotion.”

  2. Congrats on the successful blog tour. The AMS stuff is a pretty big and pricey headache. Does it work as well as it used to?

    1. I have had moderate success. The trick is to take it low and slow and try to get keywords that make sense in the marketplace. Nothing outstanding though.

      1. How much does it usually cost?

      2. I have my cost of sales down in the 40% range. Of course, there are times when it ranges up to 200%. I never spend more than $5.00 a day. I set that limit.

  3. “Never promotion,” so true, John. Your two words put it all in perspective. My mom’s last words were “I love you” — to my sister-in-law who held her hand. 🤍

    1. Aw. Such a sweet memory, Gwen. No better words to say as we leave this dimension. Thanks for sharing. 😊

    1. Thank you for the encouragement, Keith. I think we all end up inthe same place after all is said and done. It is fun to give it a college try though.

  5. It’s a lot of work to write, promote, sell a book. At least self-publishing is an option. Hard work but better than seeing your manuscript wrapped up in brown paper and tossed into a corner, unread…
Have a fabulous and relaxing (🙄) weekend!

    1. I agree, Dale. I get a measure of satisfaction seeing my books on the shelf. Thanks for the weekend wish. 😁

      1. I can so imagine! It must be a thrill!
I just got the good news the canteen is closed on Sundays! Woot! I started a new job yesterday so I’d be working 7 days a week until the golf closes completely. Now I have a day off. So happy.

      2. OMG. That is good news. Of course, seven days a week can be a grind. When does golf close?

        Liked by 1 person

      3. It is! I’m happy I don’t have to worry about the after-golf, now. And not soon enough. But apparently Nov.1 though I’m leaving Oct.24.

  6. Dear John, you are so right! Besides, it is such a pleasure when all these preparations have been over! Lucy is so wise! Friday is everywhere! Have a nice relaxing week-end! 🙂 PS: Your publishing enterprise made me ponder upon something. I will email you about that.

  16. Congrats on your successful blog tour, John — so much nicer sharing your words with those who are already in your corner, huh? It’s the promotion part that tangles up most writers. It’s a necessary evil, I think, because you’ve got to get your work in new hands so they, too, can become family and supporters.

    1. TYou are so right, the new hands are the big problems, Debbie. Thanks. 😁

  17. It has been quite a tour, John, and I have met some new bloggers along the way. Fun stuff, but I know you must be exhausted. Promotion is our least favorite word for sure. Happy Friday!

  18. LOL! When you have an extensive book tour like you’ve been having, John, you’re allowed a flub or two. The tour has been great, but I know how taxing all that promotion is too.

It’s been wonderful seeing all the support for your work and blogging friends rallied around you. What a great tour with wonderful excerpts from a fantastic book.

    Happy Friday!

  20. You’ve had a huge tour for Eternal Road, John. A few times, I’ve tried to have a big tour, and I agree about how exhausting it is. The concept of “Yes, but it’s a good tired!” is true, but horsefeathers! It doesn’t take away the tired. LOL.
As you’ve figured out, I’m doing a launch next week, but I just didn’t have the energy to do the kind of thing you’ve done. (Not to mention the necessary Internet.) You have my respect for what you’ve been doing. Kudos, my friend.
    Hugs on the wing!
