In Keith’s words. “Using this photo (below) as inspiration, write a short story, flash fiction, scene, poem; anything, really; even just a caption for the photograph. Either put it (or a link to it) in a comment or email it to me at keithchanning@gmail.com before 6pm next Sunday (if you aren’t sure what the time is where I live, this link will tell you). If you post it on your own blog or site, a link to this page would be appreciated, but please do also mention it in a comment here.
Go on. You know you want to. Let your creativity and imagination soar. I shall display the entries next Monday.”

Away We Go by John W. Howell © 2020
“So hold on a minute.”
“Not on your life.”
“What are we running from?”
“What? Are you stupid or something?”
“No I just would like to know what’s going on.”
“You don’t need to know. Just keep putting them up and laying them down.”
“What happens if I run out of breath.”
“You’ll die.”
“You’re kidding right?”
“If you want to believe that. Go ahead. It’s gonna be your funeral.”
“There’s nothing behind us.”
“Says you.”
“I can’t see anything.”
“So stop running then.”
“Okay, you’ve convinced me. How far are we going?”
“Till we are out of danger. or.”
“Or what?”
“Or until the lion catches us.”
“There is no lion.”
“How do you know?”
“We are warthogs right?”
“Yeah, of course.”
“You think a lion wants warts?”
“Hmmm.”
“Good point right?”
“Okay let’s stop.”
“Thank heavens.”
“Where did you come up with that wart thing.”
“I overheard a toad telling a mongoose, ‘Sure you want warts, go ahead and eat me.'”
“Genius.”
“Why thank you.”
“Not you, idiot. The toad. We should tell all our would-be consumers that story.”
“Get ready to start talking. Here comes the lion.”
“Told ya.”
“You were right.”
Brilliant, John. Perhaps that explains why nobody eats dung-beetles, too.

Hilarious, John. It’s always a gift to begin the day with laughter. I’m hoping hyenas are pursuing the lion. Seems only fair. 🤣

The Lion KIng proved that warthogs and lions can be friends… Pumbaa and Simba were… Walt Disney wouldn’t lie to us, would they?

I’m not sure Disney would lie. MIce can talk right?

It may be slightly flawed but at least it is a plan. Thanks, Craig. (Personally I never got good info from a toad)

Lets hope the lion is a super fussy eater and doesn’t want warts!

My guess is the lion doesn’t believe the wart story. 😁

Goo one, John! I was wondering what they were running from … or to. Could have been a Black Friday sale, ha!

Hahaha, good one. Am I the only one who hates those nature shows because I feel bad if the warthog gets eaten (poor little fella) but I also feel bad if he gets away (poor hungry lion).

Yeah, I can watch them either.

Must be a real pain if you’re the one warthog with a clear complexion.

LOL! I thought of the Lion King and Pumbaa straight away. Let’s hope it’s just Simba chasing them for a game of tag and not a hungry lion wanting dinner!
