DOSSIER Name: Nixon Beck Occupation: Director, US Government AATIP (Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program) Of Note: No information found TRANSCRIPT OF INTERVIEW BETWEEN AUTHOR (Staci Troilo a.k.a. D.L. Cross) AND CHARACTER (AATIP Director Nixon Beck) ON ASTRAL DAY (the day the world is alerted to the approach of alien ships) via video conference. (Video is eyes-only, file #4261918-V, director’s approval required.) Subject photo available, file #4261918-G Staci: Hello, Director. Thank you for taking a minute to speak with me. Beck: You have literally one minute. Go. Staci: Oh. Okay. Well. Can you tell me what AATIP is planning to do when the aliens get here? Beck: No. Staci: (blinks a few times) No, you can’t tell me because AATIP doesn’t have a plan? Or, no, you can’t tell me because I don’t have clearance? Because I do have clearance. Beck: (glances at watch then back into the camera; says nothing) Staci: Okay. Well, I understand this isn’t the first time aliens have come to Earth. In fact, I have it on good authority that the US government has at least one in custody and has for a long time. Beck: (stares into camera; says nothing) Staci: Can you confirm that? Beck: No. Staci: No, you can’t confirm that? Or no, you don’t intend to because I don’t have clearance? Because, as I said earlier— Beck: You do have clearance. Staci: Yes. I can offer you proof, if you require it. Beck: Do you honestly think you know something I don’t? I agreed to talk to you because you have clearance. Staci: But you aren’t talking to me. Beck: Because I know you’re recording this video interview, and I don’t know who you plan on sharing it with. Let me explain something to you, Ms. Troilo. You may have been cleared to talk to me, and I may have been asked to talk to you, but your audience has zero clearance. So, you’re lucky I said as much as I did. Staci: But you haven’t said anything. Beck: (more blinking) Staci: Okay. Well, can you tell me what your roll is at AATIP, precisely? Beck: That’s redacted. And your minute is up. Staci: Director— (but his screen was already dark)

Thanks again for hosting me today, John. And thanks to all of your fans for welcoming me. This post was as fun to write as the stories were, and I appreciate you taking the time to read it. Grazie!
Beck had to be the most interesting character of the series. I enjoyed the interview:) Fantastic series!

Hahaha, he sounds like a typical shady government official, talking in circles 😁

He does have “government speak” down. Not sure I’d call him typical, though. 😉 Thanks, Jess.

Beck was an interesting character. One I wasn’t sure if I liked or disliked.
Congrats on the series, Staci. I thoroughly enjoyed all the books. And thanks to John for hosting today.

I had every intention of hating him. And I grew to like him pretty quickly. He was a blast to write. I’d like to tell you my favorite scenes, but I don’t want to give anything away. Thanks, Joan.

Lost in Space was one of my favorite shows, too. I remember having pictures of Don West pinned to my bulletin board. 🙂 Congratulations to Staci! Thanks for hosting, John.

I adored him! I know Guy Williams (who was cute) was supposed to be the star (though, let’s face it, Jonathan Harris stole the show… and the robot), but Mark Goddard brought a swagger to the role of Don West that was sorely lacking in the rest of the characters. Everyone else was so nice; the show needed a bad boy. I love that you had pics of him on your board. 🙂 Thanks for sharing that.

I agree, Staci! I also had photos of James Garner…think Rockford Files! 🙂

I’ll hear that theme song in my head all day. Angel was funny, but Rockford was my guy. 😊

Beck is always tight-lipped. Unless he’s telling someone off or barking orders, both of which he also loves to do. Thanks for dropping by, Craig.

haha, What girl didn’t fall for Major John West?! Those early sci-fi influenced many children of that era and I’m one of them. Thank you, John, for introducing me to D.L. Cross. She id definitely on my list for future book purchases!

Yeah, I’m a Major West girl. (Captain Kirk would be so jealous if he heard me say that!) Thanks so much for the support.

Boy – talk about your difficult interview subjects. Can’t wait to get started with this series again, Staci!

He and Chris vie for which one gives less information when they speak. It’s hard to say who wins that battle. Chris is smoother. Beck prefers the brute-force approach. Neither breaks easily. Or ever, really. I’m glad you’re interested in the series, Teri. I hope you enjoy it when you get back to it.

OMG, was that a great interview of double-talk! Beck was one of my favorite characters in the series. And what a great series. I loved Astral Conspiracy and highly recommend it to readers everywhere. These books are not to be missed!

It was the quintessential Beck interview. Short of a bunch of expletives or black bars over his words, this was the best I could do, I think. Thanks for your unwavering support and constant enthusiasm, Mae.

This is one of my favorites of these wonderful interviews, Staci! So clever! As is the series, so far. (Didn’t quite finish Book 2 last night, but it wasn’t for lack of effort. My eyelids just wouldn’t cooperate!)
Thanks for having Staci here today, John. Great post, you two. Sharing! 🙂

Thanks, Jan. His might have been the most fun to write because he’s so difficult. He didn’t reveal anything, but that in and of itself reveals a lot about him (though not a lot about the series, I’m afraid). I’m so glad you followed the tour. Thanks for the support!
