Thursday – A Little Personal – Twiggy and Lucy Help Out

Twiggy and Lucy

“So Lucy, you think we can help Dad with these leaves?”

“Yeah, what’s so hard? After all, the old boy is not getting any younger.”

“I don’t know. We don’t have any equipment.”

“Well, I think we just have to do what we do best.”

“Okay, I’m looking for the squirrel.”

“No, I meant to use our paws. We are good at that. We can get these leaves into a pile.”

“The minute I turn my back, you hit the sunbath. Why are you laying down?”

“What? I can’t hear you from here.”

“I think after all its work, it’s time for a lounge.”

“What? I can’t hear you from here.”

“Yes, indeed. Shade, lounge. If only that cabana guy would come around.”

“I heard the word cabana. I’ll be right there.”

“This could use a little fluffing. Ah, just right.”

“I’m almost there. Got drinks?”

“No, I don’t have drinks. You know how wretched the help is at this place.”

“Whew. That is a long walk. I could use some shade.”

“Take my lounge. I’m going to meditate with my hot rock friends.”

“Better be careful. I’m not sure if your butt is one of the seven chakras.”

“Do you even know what a chakra is?”

“Don’t make me laugh. Of course, I know. They are points of energy.”

“Time of meditation is over. Time to go back to the issue of the leaves.”

“We do not have an opposable thumb. That’s our out. No one would expect us to actually do work.”

“I can say sitting in the sun is a lot better than raking leaves. What about Dad getting older.”

“Yeah, don’t worry about him. One year of his life is like seven of ours. He has the advantage of being a slow cooker. Let’s just say we tried.”

  1. In the Soviet Union it was called subotnik! So, a pretty autumn subotnik at the Twiggy resort is very useful for Twiggy & Lucy! Twiggy’s stone meditation is incredible! Indeed, she is an expert of yoga! 🙂

    1. Hahaha.I’ll try to remember subotnik for the next time. Thank you, Maria.

      1. All for you, my dear friend! Yes, besides, it is a part of the true Soviet reality. I can imagine how you tell them: “Now, Ladies! Today is the subotnik!” They might imagine it as a delicious dish. 😂😂😂😎

      4. Or so they would think until they were issued a broom.

      5. It would be a surprise, dear John! In fact, a broom is based on a stick. Dogs might comprehend it in their own way: the subotnik is a great game.😂😂😂

  4. I have a feeling Twiggy has a case of ADD. Her attention span is a bit short.
Do they even make a rake for those without an opposable thumb? Might be an idea for an invention……

    1. I’m not sure we could harness the lazy on this one, GP. Yes Twiggy does get distracted pretty easily. Thanks, 😊

  8. Loved the slow cooker line. Looks like Twiggy and Lucy did more meditating and resting than helping. 🙂

A slow cooker? What a terrific line, John. I love it. My friend always calls her body an old car that regularly needs fixing, but your image captures it even better – time does take its toll. 😀

    1. Thank you, Gwen. I was trying to think of a good analogy and that one popped into my head. The car works too. I use an airplane to describe mine. Still flying by the grace of God and big pharma. 😁

  10. haha, but its true… at least they tried 😂 , or maybe with an extra snack, hidden in the leaves, he’d do double work + double meditation + double cabana time 🤔 🕺😀 give them a chance!

  13. The girls are at their comical best today, John. But those leaves aren’t going to rake themselves. I like the idea of lounging though. Where is that cabana boy?

  14. Well, since the girls lack the opposable thumbs to pick up the leaves, you could have them count the leaves. Would that count as meditation?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. What a great idea. They could learn addition and subtraction as well. Leaves fall = addition. Leaves raked = subtraction. I must get on this. Thanks, Linda 😊

      1. I used to have a pull-behind leaf and grass rake, but that didn’t work out. It collected everything fine, including twigs that had fallen from the trees, and those got stuck in the metal rakes, making it necessary to stop and remove them. When it was only partially full, it became to heavy and cumbersome for the lawn tractor to pull it, and even if emptying it was easy, it left you with lots of small piles of grass and leaves which you still had to shovel onto one big heap. So I sold it to our gardener/handyman.

  21. Raking leaves has never been one of my favorite Fall activities, so I’m with the girls on this one — any excuse is a good excuse for getting out of the task! Cabana, drinks in the shade, those nice loungers: all are way better than the handle end of a rake!
