Hi, John! Thank you so much for opening your awesome blog site to me to help spread the word about my new book, Ghostly Interference! Your generosity is much appreciated!

Today, I’m going to share some fun facts about myself that you may or may not know.

10 THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME

  1. I am a fanatical player of word games – all kinds, board games, apps, or TV game shows – I love words. My favorite app is Words With Friends! I’ve played it since 2014. Come join me!
  2. Favorite Color – This is a hard one, because it changes, but generally any shade of Teal.
  3. Coffee or Tea – Coffee! I love a good cold glass of tea on a hot summer day, but coffee year-round. I wrote a song one time called, “You Pour My Coffee And I’ll Pour Your Tea.”
  4. Pie or Cake – That’s a hard one too because I love them both. But, pie or cobbler would most always win out over cake, especially warm with a scoop of ice cream on top.
  5. eBook or Paperback – I read mostly on my Kindle these days, but dearly love holding a paper copy in my hands. I love the way it feels and the way the pages smell.
  6. Water, soda, or juice – WATER! All-day every day!
  7. Favorite Holiday – Definitely Christmas. Once I had grandchildren, it became super important. I love watching their smiles and excitement around Christmas!
  8. Least Favorite Holiday – Fourth of July. Not only is it always blazing hot, but I am NOT a fan of fireworks, and it goes way back to my childhood. I tend to hide indoors on this holiday.
  9. Favorite Genre of Music – If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I’ve been heavily involved in the Texas music scene for many years. What you may not know is that I am a huge fan of the blues. When you hear the term, “Texas Music,” you automatically think, country, and while that is true to an extent, there is an awesome Texas Blues scene! Just think of Stevie Ray Vaughan. I also love classic country. The modern-day country does nothing for me at all. I suppose that shows my age.
  10. If you were exiled on a deserted island and could only take three things, what would they be? First and foremost, writing materials. I’d much prefer to take my computer, but without electricity, it wouldn’t last long. Secondly, I’d want to take a stack of books by my favorite authors. I mostly read on my Kindle, but again, without electricity, it wouldn’t last long. Third, a water purifier.

And just for fun, I’ll throw in one more. I love insane amounts of butter on hot cornbread or pancakes. 🙂

    Enjoyed getting to know more about you, Jan. Would you believe my favorite color also changes, depending on my mood?

    Naturally, there is something to say about the Texas music scene. Stevie Ray Vaughn was a great one. So many have passed on now – Doug Sahm, Guy Clark, Towns Van Zandt, Jerry Jeff Walker (not a native Texan but he’s one of ours). 🙂 I’m like you, today’s country music does nothing for me.

    Hi John, Hi Jan,
    Jan, if you add maple syrup to that butter, you’ve hit one of my cravings. I love cornbread with butter and syrup,. I don’t have to have any meat or any kind of side dish. I’m happy. As for music, I love almost any kind. I had the privilege of attending the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and on that night Jean Shepherd, Josh Turner, and some others. That was my first time hearing Josh Turner and I came out of the show and bought all three of his CDs.

    John, thank you for hosting Jan. It is nice visiting the tour. I am getting to know Jan.

    Hi John, Hi Jan,
    II lost my comment or at least it didn’t appear. If this is doubled, I’m sorry.
    Jan, I love cornbread and butter, but one thing is missing, maple syrup. If I have cornbread, butter, and maple syrup, I am as happy as a baby eagle. I don’t need meat and a side dish. Just give me the hot cornbread with lots of butter and maple syrup. My family always cracks up when I go home to visit because my tastes are so simple. I always tell them these are the things I miss in Europe.
    As for music, I love almost all kinds of music. I was in Nashville the summer of 2008 on vacation. I had the privilege of going to the Grand Ole Opry and I saw Jean Shepperd and Josh Turner. It was my first time hearing Josh Turner. I am a big fan of his. I left the concert and bought all of his CDs.

    John, thank you for hosting Jan. This tour is nice. I feel like I am getting to know her.

    What a fun post, Jan! Loved your answers and learning more about you.

    As for holidays, I’m with you on the heat and noise of 4th of July, neither of which I like, BUT–I dearly love watching 4th of July fireworks on TV! I’m in the a/c and can thoroughly enjoy how beautiful and inspiring they are, as long as I can adjust the volume. 😀 I especially like seeing them light up the sky above the Statue of Liberty, and things of that sort. 🙂

    Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, too, though I start that morning, and every other morning, with a cup of tea. Mark’s the coffee drinker around here. And I agree 100% that children, and then grandchildren, make Christmas the most fun day of the year! 🙂

    Really enjoyed your “Ten Things” list, and I wish you the very best with your new book! It’s awaiting me on my Kindle already, and I’m looking forward to reading it!

      Good morning, Marcia. It’s a funny thing, that as Rick got older and in worse health, he stopped drinking coffee and went entirely with tea. That was the inspiration for my song. 🙂 He’d pour my coffee every morning.         An interesting thing about tea, Jan. It may have saved my life when I fell a year ago and cracked my head on the ceramic tile floor. Not two months earlier, after a bone density scan, my doctor told me I had the “hardest bones she’d ever seen in a (then) 75-year old.” The blow to my head scrambled my brains for weeks and left me with some issues that still aren’t gone, but it didn’t fracture my skull.

        Black tea (as opposed to green or other teas) has been proven to reduce the chances of osteoporosis by 30%!! I’ve been a confirmed tea drinker since my 20s, and I’m convinced that’s why I’ve got such strong bones. (Lots of other issues, of course, but at least my skeleton is holding up! :D)

        So, while I don’t think osteoporosis as common among men as women, your husband’s switch to tea is still likely good for his bones, at the very least! 😀 ❤

    Loved your ten things, Jan. I could also eat gobs on butter (baked potatoes, pancakes, etc). My youngest son is considering a move to TX after graduation and the TX music scene is one of the reasons. He’s been a musician for over a decade.

    It’s fun to read these “About Me” profiles. I’m with Jan when it comes to fireworks. This year we have yahoos still setting off loud mortar fireworks in December. They freak our dog out every time.

    We have several things in common, but coffee is not one of them. Lol! I can’t stand the smell or taste of it. I’m all about tea, though. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold or hot, black or green or somewhere in between. Lol! This was a great post, Jan. Thanks for sharing her newest book, John. 🙂

    I share many things on your list, Jan, such as word games, books, coffee, and pie. We don’t hand out candies on Halloween for many years. We closed the blinds and turned off the light, stayed in a room away from the window. There were vans taking kids to our neighborhood for trick-or-treating. They were not our neighbors’ kids anymore.
