Thursday – A Little Personal – Lucy and Twiggy Outside

Twiggy and Lucy

“Where you going, Lucy?”

“I was going to have a lay down on the chaise.”

“Aw, come on. Let’s go to the yard.”

“I suppose I could lay in the yard just as well.”

“Wait up. I have been looking at some things.”

“What kind of things, Little One?”

“Green things. Look here.”

“That is a weed. They are the first things up. The boss is going to need a pre-emergent weed killer.”

“Hold on. A pre what?”

“It lays in wait for the weeds as they grow. It is put on before they start.”

“This cute little weed is going to die?”

“That’s the whole point. Weeds are not good in the grass.”

“Why not. Look at ’em. They are green before anything else.”

“That’s true, Little One, but they still have to go.”

“I can’t believe it. I mean, they aren’t hurting anything.”

“Not now, but when they get bigger and invite all their friends, it’s a different story.”

“I guess you know what’s best, Lucy.”

“Trust me. They don’t feel anything, and the grass will be better off.”

Lucy and Twiggy

“You are lucky you had a full life, little leaf. The weeds don’t have a chance.”

“I know she’s over there mourning the weeds. I sure hope she forgets about them. She’ll make my life a nightmare with all the questions.”

  2. “You are lucky you had a full life, little leaf. The weeds don’t have a chance.” … love this line!

I once asked my gardener to hold off cutting the grass until the daisies and buttercups had gone. They looked so beautiful, lols.

Have a great day, John 🙂

What a cute dialogue, John. Sympathies for the baby weed? Now that’s a writing achievement and a delight to read. 😊

    1. How to tell a kid something is expendable is a hard discussion. Innocence would dictate that all things have benefit. Thanks, Gwen. 😊

    1. Thank you, Jill. I think she would vote for all of us to follow her lead and care more for others. (Oops. I exposed the metaphor) 😊

  6. But Lucy… doesn’t the weed deserve to live? 🙂

    1. Yes, Lucy. Are you so cold hearted that you can’t have some empathy for others? It is a deep question, Joan. One that we all should ask more. Thank you.😁

  10. Twiggy is a good soul. I hope she doesn’t drive Lucy crazy with the questions.

Maddie will send Twiggy some pictures, John. We mow around weeds here. The bunnies love to munch on them.

    1. Leaving bunny treats sounds like a great idea. Thanks, Dan. 😁

  12. I’m with Twiggy. Poor little weeds. Funny how we’ve designated some plants as bad because of lawn aesthetics.

I LOVE these two!!! So funny, I almost feel sorry for the weeds. Almost. (Nutsedge is an herbal minion of Satan, hence my “almost.”)

    Liked by 1 person

    1. We tried to eliminate nutsedge with a product named Image. Took out the lawn too. You are right about minion of Satan. 😁

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I tried Image without much success, though ours is not in a lawn. Our backyard is all beds, with brick paving between and around them, and it grows in the cracks. The one thing I found that killed it killed things in my flowerbeds 5 feet away from where it was applied, even though I didn’t spray it, but used a brush to apply it. Backbreaking work, and STILL have the stinkin’ nutsedge. Talk about a minion! 😖
