Friday JohnKu – AKA – TGIF

Lucy and Twiggy

“It’s Friday Lucy.”
“I see it is by the clock on the wall.”
“Let’s ruckus.”

Well, here we are on Friday again. It has seemed like a short week for some reason. I can’t explain why. Maybe it’s busy.

Taxes took up a bit of time this week. I spent 2 1/2 hours on Turbo Tax customer support to fix a problem caused by Microsoft. When I booted up Turbo Tax, I couldn’t get the software updates. I let this situation go several times, but since I bought the disk a while ago, I knew I needed them. I really don’t know what the problem was, but a Microsoft bulletin suggested a couple of fixes that didn’t work. Finally, The tech and I uninstalled the program and then eliminated some programs that looked to be interfering. Long story short, all is well. I had previously saved my work, so nothing was lost except time.

This is Super Bowl weekend, and I always look forward to the commercials. Of course, having two quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady playing against each other should be entertaining. ย I guess I’m not alone. The sports pundits are calling this the greatest match-up ever. Who am I to argue. I don’t have a favorite, so I guess whoever plays the best game should win. (DUH John)

Still more executive orders out of Washington. We shall see.

This week’s JohnKu talks about having fun. I hope you all have a great weekend. This week’s view of the neighborhood is a Story walk. See you there.

  10. I’m looking forward to the game of course, but not so much the commercials this year. Budweiser, Pepsi and 6 others will NOT be having ads during the game. Instead, the money they would have spent will be going to Covid relief.

  13. Don’t hold your breath about those commercials. From what I’ve heard, most of the major producers are going for Covid, racial justice, and other such lectures rather than entertainment. The point isn’t that those issues aren’t important, it’s just that I’ve come to the point of exhaustion with being nagged.

    1. I agree about the nagging. I would love everyone to chill for four hours. Thanks, Linda.

  14. Ah taxing. I find MicroSoft to have that built in feature way too often. Reboot whilst standing on tip toes and spin. There is it better now ? Oh then we must repeat…
The Browns cured me of enjoying a good football game years ago. Now I can easily repeat the phrase it is only a game. Commercials it would seem I am on continuous revulsion therapy and that is without watching the big game. And the thought of watching a drawn out yawn extravaganza just to see the commercials well just No. On the bright side it is enough to drive me to Three Fingers. So yes there is a ray of sunshine. Like Puxatawny Phil the superbowl is a sign that spring is coming and I had better hurry up and start sorting seeds. Happy weekend John. Enjoy the commercials.

Perfect haiku, John. Software issues are the worst, but you’ve triumphed. YAY. I’m almost finished with our taxes, and the process leaves me dreaming about states that have no income tax. Hmmm, lucky you to be living in one of those favorites. I hope you can set it all aside and enjoy the weekend. It looks like the girls are ready! ๐Ÿ˜Š

    1. I already filed and the gov is not accepting e-files until the 12th of Feb. Go figure. I love the lack of state tax for sure. When I was getting deferred payments from an Indiana company that state sucked all they could out of them. I tried to fight them but their method was not to respond to anything. I finally gave up and paid the taxes.

  16. I’ve at least started my taxes — definitely not high on my “fun” list though! As for writing, I’m pausing that a bit, too (necessary, but frustrating). I haven’t a horse in the Super Bowl race, but it should be enjoyable, mindless entertainment — enjoy your weekend, my friend!

Perhaps ‘Turbo Tax’ should be renamed ‘Tortoise Tax’. The evergreen Brady is still playing, that’s incredible. I think I write something similar on your blog every year when Super Bowl comes around and he’s playing. I’m Brady’s age and everything hurts, and I’m just doing regular stuff not playing in the NFL. Have a good weekend.

  22. Technology wasting our time? No.Way.

As for the predictions that this is going to be the greatest matchup of QB’s ever? I remember when they played a game in Palo Alto back in 1985. Joe Montana vs my boy Dan Marino. I was SO sure the Dolphins were finally going to hoist the Lombardi Trophy again. And then the game started. And then Joe Montana did Joe Montana things. And then it was 49ers 38 Dolphins 16.

    But yanno . . I’m uh . . over that.

      1. I have little doubt that Elway/Favre would have been tops if it hadn’t been the tail end of Elway’s career. As it is, Manning vs Brees at 7 feels more top three to me. Solid list, Boss, thank you.

Doesn’t it seem like customer service (what a misnomer) keeps taking longer and longer. I sometimes give up in frustration. Way to tough it out!

Enjoy the Super Bowl! I’m still recovering from two weeks ago because I thought the Packers had a team good enough to do it this year. Now, I just want to see a close game. I read somewhere that many of the usual big-time advertisers pulled out this year. This is the one time all year I look forward to the commercials.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Many of the advertisers are donating the cost of the commercials to Covid relief. Customer service is an oxymoron.

  24. Agree with Jill and you…I watched the QB for KC when he was at Texas Tech – he’s an incredible talent…I vote for a ‘back to back’ for M. Also like Brady: possibly fateful that the top two are facing each other in the ‘Super Bowl’…My take…
