“So you wanted to come out and look for green. What is that?”
“Looks green, but I think it’s an old leaf.”
“Okay, then leave it and keep looking.”
“Well, I have to make sure.”
Hey, look at the lawn. Doesn’t that have a green hue?”
“Hue? What the heck is a hue?”
“Just call it a hint of green then.”
“I’m heading for the patio. There is always green out there.”
“This time, you are going to be disappointed. Nothing green.”
“Darn. Looks like the freeze got everything except the bushes at the fence.”
“Looks that way. Why are you so interested in Green, anyway?”
“I heard Saint Patrick’s day is coming. It’s a day for wearing O’ the green.”
“For heaven’s sake. I thought it was a matter of life or death when you first told me we needed to find the green. Forget it.”
“What about the luck you’ll miss by not wearing green?”
“Here’s a downspout thingy you could wear.”
“Come on, Lucy, get serious. We need something green to wear.”
“Okay. We’ll ask Mom if he has anything you can put on.”
“I hope she doesn’t drag out that holiday sweater.”
“Come to think about it. There is a lot of green on it.”
“Maybe we should ask Dad. He might have an idea.”
“Okay, but I think the sweater would look cute on you.”
“You are teasing, right?”
“Right.”
Looks like the frost did a number on your turf, John. At least it won’t need cutting for a while.

This is Zoysa grass. It goes completely dormant in the winter and stays that way until longer daylight hours. It is freeze resistant. We will see what happens. I do have concerns about a couple of areas. Thanks, Keith

I’ve always wondered if dogs like the sweaters that parents buy for them. I suspect if it brings more cuddles and an extra nibble they think it’s worth it. You’re a dog whisperer, what do you think? BTW, I loved the morning search for green, but I always love Thursday – A Little Personal. 😊

Thank you, Gwen. I loved your comment. I think dogs in general hate sweaters. I know ours do. I think they would rather face the cold. Seems silly but they fight them like crazy. Lucy acts like a bucking bronco and Twiggy brushes against the couch trying to rub it off. We have given up. 😁

The lawn is actually okay. It is a type of grass that goes dormant in the winter. It is still too early to assess any fallout from the freeze. Usually it is pretty tolerant but that was some freeze. Thanks you, Harmony. We’ll see how it develops. 😁

Toenails. They hate that, too, but it’s less embarrassing.

I remember the trouble you went through getting the lawn. Is it now dead or late? Oh wait – what is Twiggy thinking because isn’t she averse to wearing anything?

It is Zoysa grass which is dormant in the winter. I suspect there are some damaged spots but overall will be okay. Yes, Twiggy hates sweaters. 😁

I get it now … Twiggy is will I g to talk about sweaters she won’t wear. …meanwhile zoysa is very resilient!

I heard post-freeze lawnmowers for the first time yesterday, and smelled (GASP!) freshly mown grass. You’ll be fine, especially with Zoysia. What really got me is your mention of St. Patrick’s Day. My time sense is so ‘off’ it’s terrible. Setting the clocks forward this weekend seems just wrong. I feel like it’s still January.

I do too. I also hate that clock setting thing. Just when you think the dogs have found a routine something upsets it.

Tell these two that their granny in Florida has plenty of green around her house (except the lawn, which is dry and unhappy right now). AND be sure to tell them that on St. Patrick’s Day, I will not only be wearing green, I’ll be eating it–in the form of a green-iced birthday cake. Happy to share a virtual slice with good doggies like Twiggy & Lucy! Meantime, I see a bit of green popping up in these pics, so it won’t be long before these two will be rolling in it, if not actually wearing it. Happy spring! 🙂

Yards are brown around here too and now the live oaks are loosing their leaves so there are brown leaves everywhere. I hope yours comes back soon. At least your bushes by the fence survived. Maybe you could find the girls some green treats for St. Patrick’s Day.

Yes maybe we could have some green treats. Our live oaks are bald from the freeze.

We have Zoysa sod around our house and all the others in this settlement. We’ve been told not to expect anything green until late June and it will be gone by September. Phooey. We are going to overseed with rye grass.

Well, you’ve got more green in your lawn than we do. It’s all winter yellow/brown here.
We just got more snow so it’s still some weeks away until our grass and lawns start greening up.
The girls would look adorable in St. Paddy’s Day sweaters, or neckerchiefs. Sp?
