Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Prompt – Growth

A picture of a string with drops of water- the logo for SoCS

I was lying in the backyard working on a troublesome paragraph when all of a sudden,, the FedEx driver threw a box over the fence. I thought it quite odd, so I called out to him. He yelled back that I need to open the box soon before whatever is inside gets too much bigger. Thinking the FedEx guy knows a lot about boxes, I did open it. Much like a fake snake coiled in a can, the weekly prompt sprung out of the box and two feet into the air. I managed to wrestle it to the ground and turned it over. Here is what it said, Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “growth.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

If you would like to have, fun visit Linda Hill’s blog and read how easy it is. Here’s the link.

“Don’t even go there.”

“Where?”

“You know darned well where.”

“You mean because the prompt is growth, I would say something gross.”

“Exactly.”

“Okay then. What did you have in mind?”

“I was thinking in terms of growth in maturity.”

“Who’s?”

“Not yours for sure. You still have that idea in your brain.”

“You seem to be able to read minds. That is evidence of your parapsychology growth.”

“I don’t read minds; I just know you.”

“Harsh indeed. So you are going to write about maturity growth?”

“Yes. I’m going to use myself as an example.”

“That’s a laugh.”

“Why do you. say that?”

“Anyone who makes up stories about a FedEx guy tossing a package over the fence has some growing up to do.”

“All right, smartypants—”

“Smartypants?”

“Never mind. Just tell me your idea about growth.”

“That growth on your chin.”

“What growth? You mean my goatee?”

“More like a goat tee, hee.”

“You are just jealous.”

“Why does every nerd say somebody’s jealous when it is pointed out something nerdy about them?”

“Cause you are. My goatee is a work of art.”

“More like a growth of a band of hair that couldn’t make it on the head.”

“Okay, let’s focus on something else.”

“Like the growth of peanuts?”

“What does that have to do with anything?”

“Peanuts coupled with large frosty pints of beer.”

“My turn right?”

“Right.”

“Not sure you want to drink with a nerd.”

“The nerd that buys is one of my guys.”

“Terrible.”

“I need poety growth.”

“Or a heart attack.”

  1. I love the FedEx intro. From one nerd to another, nicely done, John.

Now, hose that prompt off so it stops growing before Twiggy barks it into the next yard.

    Have a great weekend.

    1. Good idea on the hose. Twiggy has been on a bark roll the last two days. She has these phases. Hope it ends soon. 😁

      1. We have one FedEx guy that gives us a little knock when he leaves a package. It’s a nice gesture, but Maddie goes apesh*t.

      2. We have a note under the Ring doorbell not to ring it. Sets Twiggy off for five minutes.(By the way they don’t have to ring we see them.)

  6. If one cannot pour one’s life out in poetry beer is a suitable substitute. Pour away.. only do use the glass. It is too early in the day to cry over spilt spirits. Even low grade ones.

  8. At least it wasn’t a UPS guy. He’d just toss it at the door and leave without telling you it was there. Be rather messy then.

  9. I have to say the intros to these prompts are almost as inventive as the prompt responses themselves! Beer it is! Save me a seat – you’re my kinda nerd!
