It is Wednesday Story Day again, and last week we found out that the light-colored Escalade used by Cortez’s thugs didn’t have any reports of being stolen. The plate on it belonged to a Prius. There was one Escalade stolen in LA, but it was black. We did speculate that it would be easy to repaint the car, but that was just a red herring. There was also a dealer name on the license plate surround. Our gang is off to visit the dealer to see if there is any information that can be found about the car. I see they are all at the dealer’s place, so we better get over there to check it out.
“Yes, that looks like an Escalade we sold. Let me check the records.”
“We’ll wait.”
“I can check them right here on my computer.”
“Of course.”
“Yes, that is a very unusual color. Inspiration crème. It was sold two weeks ago to a local person. A good customer. I have the name and address.”
“That would be great if you could let us have it.”
“You do know that we need to protect our customer information.”
“I understand. This is a matter of life or death. I could get a warrant.”
“No, no, that won’t be necessary. Her name is Shirley Tounsand.”
“Her name?”
“Yes, Miss Tounsand has bought many vehicles from us.”
“Miss Tounsand?”
“She is a widow and likes to get a car every couple of years.”
“So that is a 2020?”
“Yes, it was left in inventory, so we gave her a great buy.”
“I will need the VIN number.”
“VIN number. What for?”
“We believe this vehicle was involved in a kidnapping. The Vin will allow us to access the GPS and perhaps locate it.”
“You don’t believe Miss Thousand is involved, do you?”
“Let’s hope not, but in any case, she might be in danger. Could we have her address, please?”
“Yes, here it is.”
“Do you happen to have her phone number as well?”
“Yes. It is on that paper. Do me a favor.”
“Sure, What?”
“Let me know she’s okay.”
“We can do that. Thank you.”
“Hey, Mike?”
“Yes, Larry.”
“Let’s go outside.”
“Thank you for the information. We’ll be in touch. After you, Larry.”
“I don’t want to alarm anyone, but I have some concern for that widow.”
“Yeah, no kidding. I’m calling her now. The phone is ringing.”
“I hope she picks up.”
“Still ringing. Ah, to voice mail.”
“Hang up.”
“Gotcha.”
“We need to send someone over there for a welfare check. Knowing these guys, the widow could be in trouble.”
“Let me call the Reno PD.”
Can you see what you’ve done to me? I’m thinking now that the car sales guy gave away too much information too easily and it’s therefore likely to be fake. I suspect he knows more than he’s saying – in fact, he’s probably covering for someone, either through loyalty, because he’s been bribed or because he values the continuing health of his family.

The fact that his teenage son hasn’t been seen for days might mean something?

Thank goodness for Twiggy and Lucy. Hump Day may offer mystery and uncertain trails, but the girls grace us with wisdom and glimpses of your evolving backyard. A win-win! 🙂

I agree, a welfare check is a good idea. I don’t have a good feeling about this.😳

I don’t either.

If these guys harmed a widow, I’m going to up my requirement for a happy ending . Then again, my car dealer can’t get names and addresses straight, so maybe he’s confused.

Hahaha. I think you might be right about the car dealer.

*looks around* Huh? Who? Where?

I’m assuming it’s the vehicle owner. At least until a new name shows up. Then I’ll believe they’re the mastermind.

The official tally on who I believe versus who I don’t believe in this story is heavily slanted towards the latter. And the poor widow, I mean . . these guys have no line!

Gotta wonder about the writer too. WTH is he thinking?

Well, that guy is not to be trusted . . . crafty genius that he happens to be. 😉

Did the thugs leave miss Shirley holding the Prius ? Let’s hope she will be able to buy a new car to replace the Caddy…

Miss Shirley may be Miss habeas corpus by now.

John, I hope it doesn’t hurt your feelings, but I got lost many weeks ago and can’t seem to catch up. I think it happened when I took that extra-long break to tend to Monkey. It’s frustrating for me, but I didn’t want you to think I’d dropped off the planet!

It’s okay. This is not for everyone for sure.

The hole gets deeper…take a sturdy, inflatable ladder down with you…OR, I can send you Hymie’s location…the scheme is his dream! OR, I’ll stop being flippant! Flippancy is a dangerous path to walk…OMG, where is all this coming from??? OR, going to??? My words! NOT, yours! Mine! Convoluted and all! 🙂

That was way too easy. I’m worried about the poor widow but feel like they are going where the other side wants them to.

I was thinking how they got the information so easily too without a warrant. Would that happen in real life? Should we wonder about the sales guy? Well, let’s hope the widow is okay. And today’s Thursday, so almost Friday! 🙂

Yes. Almost Friday. Lauren. No need for a warrant if the guy is willing to spill his guts.
