Since this is Memorial Day weekend, I thought it would be nice to have a leisurely time contemplating what Memorial day means. The day has been set aside to remember those who gave their lives so that we can enjoy the freedom that is an integral part of ours.
We are going to keep the brunch simple today in keeping with the spirit of the weekend. One of our freedoms is to choose food that will taste great but not be the best for us. We are being catered by the Magnolia Pancake Haus in San Antonio, TX. Our guest is the late Marvin Gaye.

We have newborn deer in Lakeway, so there are reminders out to slow down.

I’ve often been thinking of putting signs out to make drivers slow down because there are fawns about, but I think it’s useless. They come down the hill from outside the city limits and are sometimes still going 50 when they pass our property, instead of the legal 30. And likewise they speed up way before they leave the city limits. Sometimes the local police catch one, but way too rarely. I wish we had speed traps here like in Germany.

We also have baby deer here in Indiana. We had one jump across the road in front of us yesterday. I love catching your neighborhood adventures. Your food list makes me hungry. Have a fantastic drive.

“Never forget” seems an appropriate thought for Memorial Day. And Lakeway has certainly brought out a LOT of Flags! I can’t help grinning over the baby fawn sign though — wonder what Monkey would think if he saw a baby deer?!?

The National Anthem never fails to deliver goose bumps and often reduces me to tears. One of a handful of songs that can do that time and again.

Thank you for this poignant tour, John. In 1969 I was dating a boy … Nick Gonzales. We figured to get married when he returned from Vietnam. Only trouble was … he didn’t return. I quietly honour those who gave their lives in service to this country. I don’t display flags or shoot off fireworks, but in my own way I thank them all for making the ultimate sacrifice. Oh, and I’ll keep it simple with the bacon & cheddar omelet, por favor!
