We should take a moment before we begin, to remember all those who took part in the invasion of France on D-Day June 6th, 1944. They are the greatest generation and are now fading to eternity. If you know a vet who served in WW II give them a hug.
Today’s tour is going to be brief. So brief in fact that we won’t need the bus. Also, we are going to be catered from Chick-Fil-A. Now before you laugh, this took an act of congress since Chick-Fil-A doesn’t serve on Sunday. Those of you who follow the Wednesday Story will understand that Chick-Fil-A owes me. Because of some technical problems, we will have to entertain ourselves. I can’t seem to get videos to play on the classic editor today. Thanks, WP.

So let’s start walking.
The first stop is a fig tree that I have had my eye on. It was frozen in the February freeze and looks like it is DOA.
Checking on the Artichoke Agave. Once the plant is finishing flowering, the mother plant will die.
The next photos are of the damage from the storm that moved through here on Wednesday. This tree is a total loss.
A downed limb from the wind.
A major tree with major damage.
Another view of the same tree.
My neighbors Bradford pear
A shot looking down the driveway
A closer look.
The final view looking down the driveway. The tree was rotting at the base. so they took it down
Damn. Looks like the trees took a beating.

Yeah. The wind was upwards in the 60 mph range plus hail.

I love the Artichoke Agave. How magnificent! I’m so sorry about all the trees. In our area, we had relentless rain, and lower-lying areas flooded. It’s that time of the year! Enjoy your feast, it looks incredible. 😊

I have to go see the in-laws today, so I’m just having an English muffin and fruit cap. I don’t want too much on my stomach when it gets upset…. 😖
Almost looks like a tornado grabbed those trees, eh? All our trees got a major cutback, getting ready for hurricane season – they look so bare, but I know they’ll come back.

🤣 Best of luck. The wind was in the 60 mph range. I remember the palm haircuts. Thanks for the laugh, GP.

Yes. Sadly it is going to die after the blooms are spent.

In our area, Bradford pears are always the first to go during storms. Glad you’re okay, John! Wishing you a peaceful Sunday.

Thank you, Jill. Yes, the Bradford pears do not age well. Have a great day.

I knew you’d had some rain, but I had no idea it came with such wind. Looks like it might have been straight-line winds; whatever their nature, they were strong. We’ve escaped the winds, but it can stop raining. I wouldn’t mind one bit.

I think after today we are looking at highs in the nineties and no rain for a while. Thank you for checking in, Linda.

It is always sad to see one of nature’s beautiful creations damaged or dead. Thankfully, there were no humans who lost their lives (I am assuming).

I still see lots of trees and shrubs around here that didn’t survive the snowmageddon in February. They just couldn’t handle those temperatures. It’s always sad to see big trees ripped apart by storms, but what can you do? Mother Nature will do what she pleases. We had a heck of a storm pass through Dallas last night. I haven’t gotten out, so don’t know the damages. Thanks for sharing, John.

It always makes me sad to see the damage Mother Nature can inflict. Trees are such precious resources … and take a LONG time to grow. Losing one isn’t easy. Glad you’re safe, John, after such wicked weather!

Yes, we were not in danger even though that Bradford pear was next door. Thanks, Debby. 😊

Wow, that is some serious storm damage, John. I guess the only thing you can do is be grateful it wasn’t worse.
The artichoke Agave is stunning. I’ve never seen one.

Those poor trees, John! That must’ve been a horrible storm! A few years ago, our neighbors tree from across the street fell, landing in the middle of the road, only a few feet from our driveway and cars. We watched it go down and it was scary. I hope no one was hurt or homes were damaged. Mother Nature can be intense.

John, I knew you had rain but did not know about the wind. Seems it did some damage to trees. Glad there did not seem to be damage to homes. We have had plenty of rain for which we are grateful going into the heat of the summer. With weather changes I guess we have to be ready for anything. Take care!

That was quite the storm. Pears are notorious for being brittle. I cut one of mine down on purpose this morning. Looks like that Texas asparagus went to seed.

Can you prolong the life of the agave by not allowing it to bloom? Glad no homes were damaged in the storm. I do love to watch a good storm, though 🙂

When an age starts there is no preventing it from blooming.

A lot of destruction from that cold snap, John. How sad that the mother agave dies after blooming – it is a magnificent plant! We do like Chik-Fil -A. Their chicken sandwiches are the best.
