Views of the Neighborhood – Rhythm and Reels

The Lakeway Parks and Recreation people have set up a great summer program called Rhythm and Reels. For the next three Fridays, starting at 7 PM, there will be food, treats, and games for the community’s enjoyment. Corn Hole, Giant Jenga, Spike Ball, Can Jam, Ladder Ball, and much more. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets and pick a spot to lounge. Then enjoy the games. There will be burgers, fries, and ice cream too. In addition, a full feature film will be shown starting at 8:30. What is nice we are all invited too. Even though the event was held on Friday, the staff agreed it would be okay for all of us to visit using the time warp feature of the bus.

P.Terry's sign

The event features food from P. Terry’s of Austin. We have burgers and fries on the menu.

Dessert from IceCream2U

Picture of the band

Our entertainment will be The Lost Pines. Austin’s premier bluegrass and classic country band who joins us as a trio.

The movie is The Sandlot. In the summer of 1962, a new kid in town is taken under the wing of a young baseball prodigy and his rowdy team.

So let’s get on the bus and take a time warp back to last Friday.

Views of the neighborhood

The event announced downtown Lakeway.

There’s the food truck. Place your order

The bandstand and screen for the movie.

My kind of pop-up Persian rugs and all.

Safe lawn darts.

A field of corn hole games.

Kan Jam disk for a Kan Jam game.

Giant Jenga for the steady hands.

Spoon and egg game.

Ice cream would go well with the 92-degree heat.

A big ole bounce house and the drink station.

It looks like the trio is tuning up to play, so we better grab our lawn chairs and settle back for a night of entertainment. Enjoy the food, music, and movie. I hope you all have a terrific week.

  6. When I read ‘rhythm and reels,’ I thought you’d been back to Port A for a fishing tournament! It looks like a great time, especially for the kids (of all ages).

    1. Yes indeed. Does sound a little like Port A doesn’t it? Thanks, Linda.

  7. Ah, lawn darts. Not as much fun as the old days when you had to put your life on the line. How did the originals ever get passed for a kid game?

    1. Who knows how the original darts hit the market. I can’t imagine.

  8. That must have been a fun evening, John. Thanks for enduring the heat to snag us some photos, sound and burgers, I must say, I remember when lawn darts (Jarts) were not at all safe.

    I hope you’re staying cool.

    1. I remember those Jarts as well. They were fun until they landed on a foot.

  9. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: your Parks and Recreation people are amazing! Just fantastic! We have plenty of parks in this area, but I’ve never seen any of them set up so many cool and fun things and special events as Lakeway Parks & Recreation does! Thanks so much for sharing. Brightened a gloomy Sunday morning here in Florida. 😊

  10. Nothing better than a pop up tent with a Persian rug rolled out for your lazing pleasure . . and when you add in some good grub and tunes? Win meeting win is what that is.

  14. Catchy title but I thought there would be fishing reels involved. Guess that would have been something at Port A. Looks like a fun way to people out in the fresh air for simple things. I liked the tent with Persian rugs! That is style! Cheers and happy Father’s Day!

  22. What good clean fun that was!!! A bit hot, though, John … do you think that next weekend you could request temps in the 70s instead of the 90s … asthma, y’know! Loved the atmosphere … just people out to have a bit of fun … we need more of this!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I will put in the request, Jill. of course Mother Nature does not pay attention to my requests. I also have asthma so I understand the need for cool. 😊

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Hah! Mother Nature has been completely disregarding my requests, too! It’s interesting, but many years ago I was sent to Las Vegas for a business convention. The temperatures were near 100°, but I did not have trouble breathing, for there was no humidity. Here, the humidity ranges between 45% and 90% on the average summer day and makes breathing a real chore, even inside with the a/c running.
