Friday JohnKu – AKA – TGIF

Lucy and Twiggy

“What does the word ‘Friday’ mean Lucy?”
“That the workweek is over I guess.”
“Or that the ruckus week is just beginning.”
“That too. You are it.”

Friday came just in time for me. I have pushed myself so hard since the 5th of July I need another weekend off. I hope you know that I’m kidding. I think I’ve been reading too many Twitter trending tweets.

I saw an article that stated in June, 100% of the COVID deaths in Maryland were among those who were not vaccinated. So I can imagine that would be some wake-up news for those who are still not there. But, of course, some are opposed to being vaccinated, and maybe the news won’t wake anything.

Our county has reached 70% of the population receiving one shot. Looking forward to the time where 70% of the population has had two shots. I have real fear for those not vaccinated as the new variants are beginning to take hold. Also, it will be interesting to see where the case count goes after the Fourth of July weekend.  That will be in another week.

Today’s JohnKu talks about getting vaccinated and why not. I hope you all have a safe and restful weekend.

Vaccination by John W. Howell © 2021

Is it politics?

Maybe a religious fear . . .

Why not? A puzzle.

  1. Great haiku, John. I’ve had my two shots, and thank goodness, because cases here are increasing exponentially. Have a good weekend 🙂

  2. safe and happy weekend to you too John. If some people are not wanting their shots it’s their choice but they should be wearing masks to make sure they don’t put others at risk and/or isolating when they can to keep themselves safe too.

  3. Glad that you can chill this weekend after going straight out these last few days, John. 😂 On a serious note, seeing cases surging here in Florida too with the Delta variant. Wish everyone would just get on board with the jab so we could put this pandemic behind us…😥

    1. Some have good reasons but most seem to be relying on luck or the fact others are protected. Thank you, Lori.

  4. I have some friends who can’t be vaccinated due to medical conditions. The way they’ve been ostracized is sad. These days it seems everything becomes political.

    1. I agree. Being immunocompromised isn’t a political statement. It’s a medical condition.

      1. I agree as well. Of course the way the vaccine is constructed many immune compromised (like myself) can still take the shot. Jill’s point about being ostracized is a good one. Shouldn’t be. Thanks, Liz.

    2. I agree, Jill. No one should be ostracized. The more people who get the jab the more those who can’t have it are protected too. There are way too many people who have no real reason not to get a shot but decide not to get it. I agree it gets way too political way too fast.

  6. Cheers to your productive week. Meanwhile, the virus continues to demonstrate natural selection on several levels. Now I wonder about the percentage without a vaccination who doesn’t believe in natural selection, too.

  7. Some are fearful, others like Jill stated can’t have them for medical reasons. Then others are full of conspiracy theories and refuse all types of vaccines. Can’t understand that third group at all.

Glad I’m fully vaccinated and if needed, I will take a yearly booster.

    1. The third group concerns me too, Joan. I’m all in for a booster too. Thanks for the comment. 😁

  8. I see no reason to NOT get vaccinated. The better-half and I have been fully since 9 April. I still wear a mask though as we can still get it and we can still give it to others.

    1. We still wear masks too. Those with medical excuses I understand. Those that have some warped idea that this whole thing is a conspiracy cause me concern. Thanks, GP.

  9. Yea, I’m baffled at the slow down in vaccination count, too. I suppose there are some valid reasons but for those who just shrug their shoulders and say, ‘I dunno’, I’m baffled.

  10. Unless you have a medical reason, I cannot understand why you wouldn’t get it. If for no other reason than to be above to move forward out of this mess. I have felt relief ever since I got my second shot, knowing that should I get the virus, it will most certainly be a mild case. Not that I want to get it at all but you know what I mean.
Happy Friday to you and the rest of the household!

  18. Wish I had an answer to that haiku question. Think for some it’s politics and others religion. Another group has simply bought into various conspiracy theories and refuse to budge even a little bit. I know at least one person who has seen the stats on Covid deaths being among those who are unvaccinated and still refuse. They pull this ‘I know Covid is very dangerous, but I will never catch it’ thing. So, they’re also running around without masks and, I think, lying about being vaccinated to get into some places.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The lying is my big fear. If everyone who was not vaccinated wore masks and kept a safe distance that would be one thing. Unfortunately they don’t. Thanks, Charles.

Like most things in the world these days, Covid and the vaccine have become political footballs. It should never be a matter of politics, religion, or nonsense. We’re in dire need of common sense, goodwill, and verifiable research. The problem is, which researcher(s) do you trust? Half my family has had the vaccine. Each has their reasons why or why not. I respect and love all of them, and without exception, each one honors the choice with a mask and distance. 😊

  23. I’m fully vaccinated! I took a chance with AstraZeneca, as it was the only one available here early on. In Ontario, Canada, where I live 79% have 1 dose, 53% have 2 doses.
Although we have some vaccine hesitancy here, it’s not as much as other places. I believe Canada will hit 85% fully vaccinated by summer’s end.
Then we will have to see what the latest variant is up to!
Some areas of Canada already have vaccine passports.

China should be compensating the planet!

    1. The liberals here in the US would scream themselves into several migraines if the gov even thought about vaccination passports. Good for Canada. I agree on China but again to voice that sentiment here in the US gets a politician branded as a racist by the radical liberals. So China gets another free pass to endanger the world with its BS.

      1. Ohh, well, I’m hearing no one gets into Canada without quarantining for 14 days w/o a vaccine passport. Perhaps not at all. They are working that one out.
Egads, the politics in the states seems so damned if you do, damned if you don’t!

  24. San Patricio Co.vaccination rates are at about 48%. There is no excuse not to get vaccinated except for those with some medical condition that prevents it. I am not going to worry about those that can but don’t – it is their risk. TGIF to you!

  26. I got both shots as soon as possible, John. I don’t understand the resistance from those who haven’t been vaccinated, but it must be a mindset thing. I do still see people wearing masks, so at least if they haven’t elected to be vaccinated they are being responsible. I’m sure there are plenty out there without vaccines going mask-free. We are so not out of the woods yet!

  27. The girls and I are fully vaccinated, but I still won’t go out any more than is absolutely essential and not without a mask. It seems that in many cases, sheer stubbornness us the cause for the anti-vaxxers … they don’t like being ‘told’ what to do, even if it is to save their lives or the lives of their loved ones. Fools! 29. Hi, John! I’m happy to say that my family and I are all fully vaccinated. That being said, I was hesitant for a while. It wasn’t for political or religious reasons. I had a real fear of someone injecting me with part of the coronavirus genetic code which would then infiltrate my cells and tell them to develop coronavirus spikes to trigger an immune response. When I read about it, it read more like something out of a zombie apocalypse sci-fi movie script. Ha, ha. I’ll still have my fingers crossed for the next 10 years. Jjk! 😀

  32. It is a worldwide thing, the vaccinations hesitancy. I was one too till my better half lay down the law in no uncertain terms. I believe I have been hesitant because of inadequate information. Authorities/ governments, IMHO, should have laid out the pros and cons, instead of the ‘trust me’ approach. Now that I have got the two jabs, hopefully it is for the better. Like the flu vaccine. It seems the vaccine you take prevents the last year’s version, not the latest mutation. 🙂

  33. Definitely a puzzle, John. We’ve heard of vaccinated people getting the variant and suffering, not landing in the hospital, but still suffering. So, although we’re fully vaccinated, we’re still wearing masks indoors, especially grocery stores. Some think Covid has magically disappeared and it hasn’t.
