Friday JohnKu – AKA TGIF

“We doing sun bath today, Little One?”
“Yeah until Dad starts using the ladder.”
“He doesn’t make much noise.”
“He does when he falls off.”
“Good point.”

Another Friday has graced us with its presence. So good to see you Friday, you looker you. Have a seat. Soon it will be the weekend,, and we thank you for leading us there.

We all have to send prayers to those affected by Hurricane Ida. Having survived Harvey, I can tell you it will be a rough road ahead for everyone. Also, our friends on the East Coast are having their challenges with the rain resulting from the storm. Our hearts go out to them as well.

The thirteen Marines killed during the withdrawal from Afghanistan landed at Dover Air Force base. We pray their families will at some point come to some element of peace knowing they are back. I also hope there will be some justice for those responsible for these deaths. I applaud both sides of the Congressional aisle who are demanding answers. Since the administration wants to move the Afghanistan story off page one as soon as possible, I hope those with conscience keep asking for a detailed account of what caused such a mess.

Some politicians are crowing that the withdrawal was a big success since over 100,000 people were evacuated. I tend to think about the 10% of American citizens who are still trapped in the country and, of course, the thirteen who gave their lives. Yeah, call me old-fashioned,, but success would have been no lives lost and 100% of our citizens saved.

Texas finished the meteorological summer with the coolest weather in 13 years. Our temperature was down for the three-month period by 0.58 degrees, and we only had four 100 degree days. So we will have to see what September has in store.

Today’s JohnKu talks about the weather (What else?) I hope you have a wonderful Weekend.

It takes one who knows,

To guide us through the weather . . .

Or just flip a coin.

  1. The girls could do plenty of sunbathing here, John. Unlike you all, I think we had the hottest July on record here in Florida (and now we must be vying for the title of wettest August…good grief). An plenty of news to break one’s heart wherever you look…Ida, the fires in California, the situation in Afghanistan, etc. Spending more and more time with my nose buried in a book. Wishing you, The Producer, and the girls a relaxing holiday weekend!

  2. ‘He does when he falls off’!!! OMG, John, you have me laughing so hard right now 😂
    Thanks for the much-needed humour.
Way too much going on between fire, flood, tornadoes, plague (aka COVID), and famine increasing exponentially. Your ‘flip a coin’ in the great Haiku is spot on.

I hope you and the girls, and everyone else, all have a wonderful weekend 💕🙂

  3. Have a good weekend John. The girls look settled for their,
My thoughts go out to all those suffering from the adverse weatherconditions everywhere and to the families of the 13 servicemen who lost their livew with over a hundred Afghani civilains. I’m so glad there weren’t more.
Perhaps an Indian Summer for you during September so the girls will be happy too.
    Hugs

    1. We will get some high temps but then at the end of September things will settle down. Thanks David. Hugs.

  4. Yep, I’ve enjoyed our “cool” summer. I don’t think the Tyler area officially reached the triple digits this summer. Since our rain lasted on and off all summer, the humidity has been high, so it’s felt like 100 many times.

My prayer goes out to the families of our soldiers. The whole Afghanistan pull-out sucked. Prayers also for those affected by the hurricane. Have a great weekend, John!

  5. Weather has definitely been savage lately. Some areas are still getting flooded up here due to the rivers.

  8. Please don’t fall off the Little Giant. John.

As for the answers, I gave up hoping we’d ever get honest answers out of DC. All we get is fodder for the entertainment industry that calls itself News.

I hope your September weather is a nice surprise. Our summer was hotter and wetter than most.

    1. I think everyone had something different this year. We are forecasted for some 100 degree days until the last week of September. Our summer was pretty nice all in all. Have a super labor day weekend. 😁

  9. Your Johnku is hilarious, but it does feel that way at times. So much devastating news in the last few months. My heart goes out to our citizens stuck in Afghanistan and to the families of the 13 Marines. My prayers also go out to the victims of hurricane Ida and the California fires. I’m glad you had a cool-ish summer. Our summer has been brutal, but we’ve also had a lot of summer storms which kept things from getting hellish down here. Enjoy the weekend! 😀

  10. We had our windows open last night, and it was lovely (something I missed, living in Texas, ha!) Once again, the news is all over the place. I find I have to turn it off periodically to maintain sanity. John, you be careful on that ladder — I know the girls were kidding, but you can’t afford to land in the hospital (not with COVID on the rise again).

Our dog refuses to be in the same room if my husband stands on a ladder. She doesn’t worry about me as much, I only fall off moving chairs 🙂 I agree the weather is nuts and I’m ready for that coin to flip. Have a great weekend.

  14. My dogs are going crazy right now. The neighbors are getting a new roof. Biggest squirrels they’ve ever seen up there. (Hope they take the weekend off.) Take care on that ladder.

    1. Roofers go till it’s done. I’ll bet they love the material hitting the ground. When our metal roof at the coast was replaced the metal made a vibrating bell sound when it hit the ground. The pups went insane.

  15. Perfect words, John, and the girls are just too cute. The Caldor fire, along with many spot fires, rage near South Lake Tahoe. It’s awful and the AQI is in the 700s. The weather is enough to cause anxiety, for sure. And so tragic about the thirteen marines, too. And everything else!
I hope you have a good weekend in spite of the depressing news.

  16. In Texas, the surest way is to flip a coin, John. Things are in such a huge mess everywhere. I don’t know what the solution is, but what the worldwide government is doing is not working. It’s just a mess. That’s the only word that fits. Happy Labor Day Weekend!

It does seem that weather is a flip of the coin, but frankly, our DC leadership seems to use the same approach. I’m hoping your weekend doesn’t involve a coin toss, but instead a lot of laughter and love. 😊

    1. The problem with the DC leadership is they continually drop the coin. Thanks, Gwen I hope you have a good one too. If the ice maker is working that is about all you need.
