Thursday – A Little Personal – Lucy and Twiggy Deal with a Conundrum

“Lucy, there must be something wrong.”

“Why do you say that, Little One?”

“Do you see all those leaves?”

“Yes, but this is fall. The leaves come off the trees.”

“I’m worried cause yesterday there were none.”

“Yes, that’s true, but we had some high winds last night.”

“Are you sure this is normal? Look how they’ve fallen all at once.”

“Yeah, that does seem a bit strange.”

“Come down here and take a close look at the leaves.”

“If that will make you feel better, okay.”

“What do you think?”

“They look normal to me. All dead.”

“Dead? What are you talking about?”

“Trees go through a cycle. The leaves are meant to die and fall off. Then they grow back in the spring.”

“Even if it is normal, it doesn’t make me feel any better about dying leaves.”

“I know how you feel. But, since there is nothing we can do, how about a game of tag?”

“Are you ‘it?'”

“Of course.”

    1. Yes, I have but can’t find an illustrator willing to work for a cut of the book. Thanks, Darlene.

  4. Poor Twiggy. She’s getting older and starting to think about life’s grander questions. It’s sad when the innocence of youth starts to diminish. I hope she doesn’t dwell on it for too long. I think the girls need extra belly rubs today. Sending them with love.

  6. John, how do you gather the leaves on your new lawn, the old fashion way or vacuum. Or, third option, hire someone to do it?

    Liked by 2 people

    1. I blow the leaves to the fence. with a leaf blower. I then have a vacuum that picks them up. Very quick work. Thanks, Steve.

      1. As I would have guessed. Lawn looks great. Same with the doggie poops? Or, have you trained them love the neighbors’ lawn, as some in our area have? I swear, we’re gonna have poop wars if they continue… 🙀🥴😎

      2. Dogs don’t have the run of the neighborhood.. Their poop is easily picked up with no residue. They love the turf.

      3. Here, either. But some folks just let their dog lead them instead of the other way around. Our dig is trained to go at home, for the most part.

  9. Oh, poor little Twiggy. I’ve been feeling the same. It took so long for our leaves to turn then one day of strong winds and the show is over. I hope you’re working on their children’s book, John. No pressure! 🙂

  11. I agree with Darlene: a picture book is a wonderful idea. Great for kids from 1-101+.
I love the dialogue with humor and as well as some deep emotion. Then, when it gets too deep, a game of tag is the perfect answer.

  27. Aw, Fall must be very confusing to our pups. Monkey tries to herd the leaves as they fly around the back yard. This is his first Fall. I’m waiting with baited breath for snow — I can imagine him trying to herd snowflakes! Good one, John.

  28. i wish you cold bring Twiggy and Lucy to my house, where the leaves are so plentiful on the grouond – dead leaves but some still colorful – you can’t see any lawn. That could confuse them even more! Your dogs are soooo cute. They can come any time. Even when there’s snow on the ground! 🙂
