Friday JohnKu – AKA – TGIF – Fri-Yay/Good News

Today’s good news is a little different. It is all about poetry. It is not just about poems but a unique way to deliver poems. It is called Telepoem.

These are refurbished phone booths that when visited and a number is dialed, the caller can listen to a selection from over 1000 poems. You don’t need a quarter either.

 – Vintage phone booths and kiosks with 1000+ verses in the poetry directory allow you to dial-a-poem on a rotary or push-button phone.

– A multi-sensory community gift: visual, haptic and aural, multi-genre and multi-media. ADA accommodations provide poetry for all users of all physical abilities.

-Poetry, art, and music pieces, that engage participation and feature community poets. Performance vehicle for voices of many kinds. Co-created with the community.

  1. That’s a wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing the news, John! When there were still these phone booths, I remember some people staying in them for almost an hour. They had probably already had something read to them back then. 😉 Have a nice Friday! xx Michael

    1. I have had a love/hate relationship with phone booths. I did consulting work for AT&T payphone division. It was in decline at the time.

  6. I know where there’s still a payphone in a little town on TX 35. If I thought I could dial-a-poem, I’d stop there in a minute! No phone booth, though. I’m glad to see my home state of Iowa included in your list.

    1. I wonder if the phone still works? Iowa? Thanks where the tall corn grows.

      1. It still worked a couple of years ago. I used to use it regularly, but once I got a cell phone, that was the end of that.

      2. The same for most people. I think the only pay phones left are in prison.

  13. Interesting concept. Though I’m guessing the rotary will stump some people. Extra plus side is that Superman has a place to change again.

  30. What a terrific plan. Some of our old red boxes are now mini libraries places to drop off charitable gifts food banks ans I saw one where you could get your fortune told though it was a squeeze. Long may this continue.
Just imagine what other splendid uses that could be put to old redundant buildings. The house of commons say or the White House?
