Views of the Neighborhood – Talavera Tour

Today we are going to cruise the neighborhood in search of Talavera pottery. Here is what we are looking for, according to Wikipedia.

Talavera pottery (Spanish: Talavera poblana) is a Mexican and Spanish pottery tradition from Talavera de la Reina, in Spain. The Mexican pottery is a type of majolica (faience) or tin-glazed earthenware, with a white base glaze typical of the type. It comes from the town of San Pablo del Monte (in Tlaxcala) and the cities of Puebla, Atlixco, Cholula, and Tecali (all these four latter in the state of Puebla), because of the quality of the natural clay found there and the tradition of production which goes back to the 16th century. So now we know. We are being catered by Plow Burgers in Austin. Just so you are aware, these burgers have no meat. Our entertainment is Creedence Clearwater Revival. I do have to apologize in advance for the quality of the photos. I was forced to take them pretty far away to avoid trespassing. (and possibly being shot)

Talavera birdbath and old oak tree.

A pot in a flower bed.

A planter in front of a classic stucco and Mexican tile home.

Another pot in a flower bed with rock.

A mailbox topper and lamp. (Don’t ask)

A Talavera cow.

A watering can and frog.

A beautiful turtle

And we have seen this frog before.

I hope you enjoyed the tour. Now sit back, relax, have some food and enjoy CCR. I hope you have a great week.

  1. Clare would love this. She’s heavily into pottery – she even has her own potter’s wheel at home!

    1. I’m sure she is very serious. I’m also sure she knows about Talaveria. Thanks, Keith.

      2. I actually visited there to do some software negotiations with the boys from MS. We used their middleware to set up IPTV. As you can imagine the MS boys were a challenge

      3. I can’t claim to have worked at that level, John. Probably the closest I got to that was doing a database administrator course at Oracle…

      4. I was lucky to get in on the ground floor. We were the first with a practical scaled version of IPTV. It was exciting stuff.

  2. This pottery is fabulous and yes, I see a lot of it here in Spain. Love the colours. I especially like the cow. Thanks for the great selection of non-meat burgers. (If we don’t tell hubby, he won’t know) And I love CCR and could listen to them all day! Happy Sunday.

    1. Yes, don’t tell hubby. Of course if the cheese sticks to the roof of his mouth, he might get a hint. Thanks, Darlene.

Oh my, so lovely hearing Creedence Clearwater Revival this morning! Certain bands are ladened with memories, this is one for sure. And I love Talavera. With the recent moves, my collection is with other families. I guess I need to visit a pottery store. 😊 Thank you for the morning smiles, John.

Are you getting a case GAS = Gear Acquirement Syndrome? I have had a case of it for months. The newer cameras are looking really good and I’m soooo tempted!

      2. It’s just on the log shots the image is not sharp. I use an iPhone so my options are limited. I would love to snap on a big ole lens and catch the spider crawling on a pot at 50 feet. So yea, GAS.

  10. Pretty cool stuff, John, and I learned some new things, too. (That always makes me happy). My favorite is the “reclining” frog that I apparently missed when he made his earlier appearance here. Glad I caught him this time! Thanks for another great tour of your fascinating neighborhood. Have a Super Sunday! 😀

  16. What gorgeous colors. I didn’t know about this pottery before – you might have turned up a few new customers! I would take the campfire burger (no barbecue sauce as I am partial to that in NC) and would love to taste it.
