Today we are going to Lakeway to celebrate the opening of the newly refurbished Lebolt cabin. This is a structure that was built just after the civil war and is one of Lakeway’s heritage treasures. There are also busses leaving the cabin sight to tour Lakeway’s twenty-two heritage sites of interest. Unfortunately, we won’t be going on the tour since we did that two years ago. We are being catered by Verbena in Austin. Our entertainment is Alanis Morissette.
Menu
-
Egg Sandwich – scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, brioche bun
-
Classic Ricotta Pancakes – maple syrup, fresh berries, powdered sugar, sausage
-
Verbena Brunch – two eggs, toasted sourdough, crispy potatoes, salsa verde, bacon, or breakfast sausage
-
Breakfast Tacos – scrambled eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, fire-roasted salsa, crispy potatoes
-
Short Rib Hash – crispy short rib, potatoes, cheddar cheese, green onion, fried egg
-
Crispy Potato Mille-Feuille – over easy egg, farm green salad, mustard vinaigrette
-
Verbena Burger two 4oz wagyu patties, American cheese, shredded lettuce, dijonaise, white onion, pickles, fries
-

So let’s hop on the bus and get going

This is where we take to the bus, listen to some music, and enjoy the food. I hope you all have a wonderful week.
I love this, John. Reminds me of the old cabin that is near the old Dallas County Courthouse.

You explained the picture with Kay Andrews – do you happen to know who is in the mirror image?
I had my breakfast and a great tour – thank you once again, John!

The mirror image is Vicky Taylor’s (The committee chair )husband. I tried to get a shot with him out of the mirror but it didn’t happen. Thanks for coming along, GP

I love heritage sites like this and am so glad to see they are being preserved. The original museum In Medicine Hat, Alberta, was inside a log cabin. This was the one I visited as a child. Then a larger structure was built and the log cabin was moved inside of it. This was the museum I worked at as a young adult. Now, there is an amazing building for Arts and Entertainment and the museum is part of it. I was pleased to see during a recent visit with my grandson that the log cabin is still part of the display.

I’m happy to see that Texas preserves its history so well. I went to the Museum of SouthTexas History in San Antonio and could have spent an entire day there! Imagine living in that tiny house!
Thanks for the tour. I think I’ll have the Crispy Potato Mille-Feuille this morning. Fits my diet!

That’s really cool, John, I love finding historic places like this. It’s good to see that they moved it and repaired it. Certainly worth celebrating. I’ll go with Egg Sandwich – scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, brioche bun. I was thinking about the “Classic Ricotta Pancakes” but there’s one too many words in that description.

I’m with you on the too many words. I’m not going to eat anything that requires a lot of words to describe.

There is a supermarket where the cabin used to be. It is good to have it by city hall.

It seems they did a good job. It is important to go inside these old cabins and get the feel of how the pioneers lived. I spotted an old tractor seat converted into a stool. We had one like that made from one of my grandfather’s. Thanks for sharing, John. I’ll have the Verbena Brunch.

Good choice on the brunch. The cabin is so small inside it is a wonder the folks didn’t kill each other. Thanks, Jo. I hope you have a super week.

Hard to fathom an entire family living in such cramped quarters … but then again, perhaps they derived some comfort (and warmth!) from each other. Gee, he sold 80 acres and a cabin for $525?? Probably felt like a fortune to him! Interesting tour, John.

I think he was happy with his price. He got the land for nothing. The amount it is worth today is about $10,000

Hmmmm … a delightful menu. I would like the ricotta pancakes with berries, but no sausage, please! Yummmmmmm. I love the cabin … just my kind of place … room for books, a stove & sink, a bed, and not much else! Sorry, no overnight visitors! One moggie, perhaps. Fun tour, John … thank you!

Isn’t it amazing how tiny these abodes once were? And they were sufficient…
Alanis is always a good musical accompaniment to this delicious lunch as well.
