So let’s go.

Looks like dad had babysitting duties.

A newborn in our Agave bed.

Another in the rocks. (Why stones, you have to wonder?)

Bigger and doing our own thing.

Mama with her twins.

Mama with her only baby on the driveway.

Boys’ night out. (Notice the velvet on the antlers.)

“Hey, you. Contact my agent if you want photos.”

Twins on a sunny morning.

Well looks like the deer are doing fine. I hope you have a good week. Now listen to Big and Rich and enjoy the brunch.

  3. Good zoom to get the close pics of the youngins’. Boys night out made me laugh. Why the velvet? Nice song.

    1. Deer grow new antlers every year. The velvet around the stubs of antlers provides the blood and oxygen that the antlers need to fully mature.

  6. They all seem to be doing quite well. It would seem the rocks would hinder a young deer in getting to its feet, but who am I to question nature. A wonderful tour today, John, thank you.

    1. They seem to do okay on the rocks. I think the Mama’s believe they blend in better than on the grass.

  7. Maybe the rock is cooler? Great photos, John. We’ve had so many deer running around lately due to all of the construction…it’s kind of sad. Wishing you all a peaceful Sunday.

  10. The babies are so cute, John. You do have to wonder why they like the rocks. Maybe Charles is right. In any case, I’m glad you spotted them.

I’ll go with that classic breakfast – two eggs (over medium), maple sausage, potato wedges, buttered toast, strawberry preserves. Can we make that sourdough toast?

  11. Hi John, it always amazes me how close the deer in your area come to the houses. They have no fear of humans.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. They and humans have been together since the early 60s. These are sixth generation deer who do not know what it is like not to live with humans. Shows synergy can happen.

  12. That quiche sounds pretty good, John. I think the fawns like to sleep on the rocks because they are warm from the sun!

We have a few neighbors but live in a reasonably woody area. I just came in from mowing the lawn on my riding mower, and three deer waltzed by like it was an everyday occurrence—quite a strange feeling.
