Thursday – A Little Personal – Lucy and Twiggy Discover Fall

“What the heck?”

“These are acorns, Little one. They fell from the neighbor’s oak.”

“I remember these from last year. I tried to eat one. Boy, are they bitter.”

“These are not for eating. They are seeds that, if planted, will grow a new tree.”

“They don’t smell like seeds.”

“How do you know what seeds smell like?”

“Dad dropped a bunch of sunflower seeds in the kitchen once. Now there’s a smell.”

“You get any?”

“Nah. He ran around like a chicken and got them all before I could.”

“He was worried that they  may not be good for you.”

“I think you’re right. This is just the start of millions of those acorn things. Then the pesky squirrel will come into the yard.”

“You like chasing him, don’t you?”

“Yeah, but he is too fast. Why do we need fall anyway?”

“Well, fall brings acorns. Then the squirrel. Then leaves. All interesting things to entertain us.”

“Yeah, and don’t forget the leaf blower.”

“I try not to think about that.”

“I guess we need to have things change so that we stay on our toes.”

“A perfect way to look at it, Little One.”

“Good thing kibble doesn’t change. Not sure how I would handle that.”

“I don’t think you have to worry. I saw a Chewy box in the hall.”

“Good ole Chewy.”

  1. I’m sure there is nothing like a Chewy box to keep the girls happy. They must love delivery day—far more to their liking then acorns I would imagine!

  2. I’m sure it’s not just the girls who don’t want to think about the leaf blower! Lols 😂. Hope you all have a lovely day 💕🙂

  3. Maybe the lurking puma will chase the squirrel away for the girls. Then the leaf blower can chase away the puma! At least Chewy brought more food. My guys are always happy when that box comes.

Ear scratches for the girls. Happy autumn!

  7. In the UK, they let pigs run wild to eat the acorns because they’re poisonous to the horses. Maybe you need a piglet now to help pick up the acorns – it would save the girls from hearing the blower…

    1. The poor piglet would be run ragged playing with Twiggy (who’s nickname is piglet)

  10. Everything’s better with a Chewy box! Actually you CAN eat acorns – you shell them and then grind them in a food processor and then rinse out the tannins and dry for a flour substitute. I tried it – it works! Maybe the girls would ike it in biscuits.

    1. Good suggestion, Noelle. Have to try it someday.

  12. John however did you manage to choose two dogs both with the fascinating power of conversation ? Acorns, leaf blowers, and chewy toys Oh My. On a side note what is the squirrels reaction to the artificial turf ? Are they still convinced of their ability to bury acorns under the turf ?

    1. Yes the squirrel is much safer. Much more real too. I’m forever trying to beat Twiggy to stuff on the floor. She is an Olympic player when it comes to racing to things that fall that might make her sick.

  36. Lucy and Twiggy, fall will also make your coats thick and shiny! This is perfect for around the house shedding.
OH, and tell your Dad, I’ve been working on Goats and Moats (I made it up to shake him, but he called my bluff). It’s a board game with gambling. I have to design the board, but it’s much like Snakes and Ladders. First one to the top of the board wins. Big bets are placed before the game starts.
Throw dice to move around the board. Land on a moat, draw from the Moat cards and see how far you have to move back. Sometimes you drown in the moat, and the game is lost. Sometimes you could move backwards and land on a goat.
Goats climb the mountain. Draw from the Goat cards, and see how many steps forward. You could land on Moat here.
When landing on a Goat or a Moat, bets can be raised.

Okay, I’ll get back with that!

OH, also, it’s illegal to build a moat in Toronto! Go figure?
