Today we are going to a cactus and succulent purveyor in Lakeway. I think you will be amazed at the beauty and number of plants. Mary Caroline and Matthew Shreves began their business on Instagram and opened a storefront in March this year. The couple has over 1000 cacti, agave, and succulents online and at the store. Here is a Link to their website, which is worth the visit
Our drink and food offering is going to be a little different. In keeping with our visit to a unique plant place, we are being catered by Bar 508. Yes, there are plenty of drink selections with food. However, for those who need to be closer to five O’clock, all drinks can be made without alcohol. Also, there is plenty of Topo Chico water. Our entertainment closely fits the drinks, food, and plants. We have a Mariachi band playing for us.
So let’s get on the bus and get going.

I always wanted a cactus garden – complete with a cow’s skill for decor. Never did one in the yard, but used to have several potted cacti.

Wow. Cacti are fascinating to me, and I think it’s amazing how they can hold enough water in a desert environment to be succulent.

That is a mystery for sure. I learned one of the reasons they have pickers s to keep animals from eating them for the moisture.

This would be a great place to visit. I really enjoy cacti and succulents, and they have a nice variety. I still have a few, although I lost my favorite early on, when I drowned the poor thing by watering it in the winter.

Thanks for the link, John. That’s a place Mary and I need to visit! That would really save us trips to Cactus Town near San Angelo, as we did twice two years ago. We are thinking of “remodelling” parts of our garden [where the grass is totally dead]. We are thinking of some xeriscaping, and so cacti and other plants that don’t need much water would be great.

I love all the cacti! We had so many different beds at our place in Coleman, and one of my good friends is the owner and operator of Cactus Town, Texas. 🙂 Such beautiful plants!

I’ve always wanted to know more about cacti. I’ve little ones popping up across our rock yard, and I have no idea what kind they are. Thank goodness, I always wear shoes in the yard. Thanks for the tour, John. Always fun! 😊

OOh, I loved this! I adore catci and succulents. I have a very small collection but it’s special to me. I’ve never seen or heard of a Crested Mexican Fence Post cacti before. That one was my favorite! The Monkey Tail is also very cool.

Well, the gardener would love this tour. He’s always dragging home a new cactus! When the javelina ran through our yard they would eat every new cactus plant, but we got permission to put up a fence so they can’t get to them and now he can have cacti to his gardener’s heart content.

I adore cacti & succulents, dear John! They are so unusual. An interesting fact: cacti were very popular in the Soviet Union. It was a trend to grow them at sillings. I tried to grow up cacti right from seeds. This attempt was not very successful: only 1 cactus survived. As we did not know how to take care of it properly it lived only about 10 years. Thank you for this wonderful stroll!

Looks like we’ll be checking this out on Nov. 20: Thanks for this heads-up. We’ll be in Austin that weekend to watch two German soccer clubs [1. FC Koeln and VFB Stuttgart] playing each other in the Q2 stadium that Saturday, and on Friday evening we’ll want to see Filed of Light in the Ladybird Wildflower Center.
