Very seldom do we get colors of fall here in this part of Texas. Given the drought situation, we did not expect much. Then suddenly, we got a little rain, and the trees said in unison, “Let’s go for it.” So today, we are going to see what they look like. We are being catered by Olamaie of Austin. Pay no attention to the prices. It’s covered. Our entertainment is Neil Young.
Menu
So let’s get rolling.
The first view is a Bradford pear just beginning to turn.
Red berries.
A great ingredient for one of my favorite liquors. Juniper berries
A bush version of the red berries.
A Bradford pear in full glory.
A deciduous oak in the foreground and a Bradford pear in the back.
Another deciduous oak.
Bradford pears.
An old Bradford pear.
A crape myrtle
More red berries
A golden color deciduous oak.
One of the things we enjoyed most about our time in France was the mixed woodland across the shallow valley from us; it was rather special in its autumn colours. The old oak tree at the bottom of our garden always looked good too, as do those in your neighbourhood, John.

We had the same experience here. After the days of Thanksgiving holiday rain, the trees suddenly burst into color. Many already were losing leaves, but what was left put on a glorious show; it looks as though it may endure for a few more days.

We had some wind on Friday so the falling is now serious.

Gorgeous shots, John! Sadly, the wind driven rains lately have taken down most of our leaves. Thanks for sharing! Enjoy your Sunday.

That does happen here too. I’m glad I caught them.

It always takes my brain a second to acknowledge the ‘e’ in ‘crape’. Poor tree has such a mean name.

John,
Great pictures. I thought Texas was just old sagebrush.
And thanks for your generosity. I’ll have a buttermilk biscuit.
Stay well.

Does that mean you don’t usually get a color change?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Not a vibrant color change. We don’t have a lot of deciduous trees here.

The views of your neighborhood are lovely, John. We had little color change this year, and the leaves fell a month ago. The freezing nights hit earlier than usual, which probably caused the rapid movement to winter. Enjoy the colors and the late fall. 🍂🍁🍂

Rapid move to winter is not a welcome thing. Hopefully a rapid move to spring will follow. 😁 Thanks, Gwen.

Wow! You’ve got good color. We usually don’t have much, but for some reason, the fall here was spectacular. It’s a shame the colors don’t last longer, but we have another ‘bloom’ around Thanksgiving, when the more subtle colors come out. If money is no object, you know I’ll go for the Wagyu beef! And the beef tartar. Guess I could easily be Texan!

These are lovely, John! I didn’t realize crepe myrtle changed colors (learn something new every day). And thanks for covering the feast — those prices seem a bit high to me!

Yeah, welcome to Austin Texas for pricing.

How exciting, John. I love all the orange and red. (I only see yellow here, but they’re still nice.) We got a little rain in southern NM yesterday and last night. The pecan tree had dropped its leaves without them turning. My big mulberry tree looks like it might do the same. Thanks for the tour. Hugs.

Beautiful colors, John 🙂 We got the same burst of fall after the rain and snow. I thought the drought may give us a more muted fall but it still came.

So nice to see the trees in Texas saddle up and decide to put on a show of wonderful colors for the Fall. All our leaves have “retired” for the year, so it was great to see this tree tour today, John.

ours are really late but the nice thing is they held on until the color came through.

Great color, John. It’s good to see leaves on the trees. Ours are long gone. I hope you can enjoy another week. I’ll go with smoked cabbage and grilled pork chop, with a biscuit and some whipped potatoes on the side.

Bradford pears really do have some beautiful fall colors. Our Japanese maple has never shown bold colors like this one. A medium purple is as good as it gets.
