Saturday – A Little Personal – Lucy and Twiggy Check the Plants

“Little One. Did you see this Fig tree?”

“Yeah. It’s getting some new leaves.”

“Well, that’s not good. There’s more cold coming.”

“Don’t you think the fig knows what it’s doing?”

“I’m not so sure. These crazy winters have most plants confused.”

“These begonias seem to be doing sorta okay.”

“Yeah, for now. Wait till a freeze hits.”

“These roses are getting new leaves too.”

“I sure hope they aren’t sorry. I’m going over to the patio.”

“What’s over there?”

“There were a bunch of flowers in pots. I want to make sure they aren’t budding as well.”

“If they are, what are you going to do?”

“Well, they’re not, so your question doesn’t need an answer.”

“Lucky for you, ’cause I don’t think you had an answer.”

“You may be right. How about we play in the yard.”

“I see a bud here, Lucy. What are we going to do?”

“You know everyone dislikes a wise guy.”

“Good thing I’m a girl, then.”

“How about a game of hide and seek?”

“Great, you’re it.”

“One one thousand, two one thousand….”

“No peeking.”

    1. Our neighbor had a huge fig that was lost in the freeze of 2020. The deer were very disappointed. Thank you for sharing, Holly.

      1. A terrible loss. Fig trees are beautiful and food for the gods 😊. We had three very large Fig trees at my grandparents farm. Only after I grew up did I realize what a treasure they were. Thanks for sharing this , take care John and have a great day.

  10. At least roses and figs are tough. They can return from the roots if nothing else. Assuming your roses aren’t grafted, if they are a different form returns.

    1. No the roses are purebred. They don’t get cut back until the end of February so let’s hope they can go with the flow. Thanks, Craig.

I am so organized, I’ll actually have time to pass the vacuum and mop and set the table AND shovel the walkway before taking a shower…. I might actually not have wet hair before my guests arrive 😉

  20. What room is this ? What day is this ? What garden is this ? Is it the garden at the end of the universe ? Great garden inspection. Except I am a wee bit confused. No morning coffee, no perimeter alerts, no voodoo ranger ! Lions and tigers and bears Oh my. Next thing you know I will awake old and confused. Where oh where has my three finger tonic gone ? And desperation sets in like a well oiled bear trap…

  36. The girls know the danger of thinking the current weather is trending upward. We had flurries yesterday (Jan. 23) for the first time. In our area, there have been occasions where we haven’t had any measurable snow until now, but to not even have flurries is quite unusual. The trees, plants, grass, etc. does not have this background info and I’m sure they are quite confused. I haven’t seen any pumas here either, but I’m always on the lookout, John!
