Did You See That? By John W. Howell © 2023

“Why are we running?”

“Are you kidding?”

“No, I just don’t understand.”

“Didn’t you see that?”

“What was I supposed to see?”

“Here we’ve been patrolling these hills for what seems like forever.”

“Yeah. I still don’t get it.”

“We’ve been up, down, and all around.”

“Okay, okay, so what?”

“This is the first time I have seen one in the daytime.”

“You are driving me nuts, let alone out of breath.”

“Sure, there were hints of nighttime visits.”

“I will stop unless you tell me what you saw.”

“Suit yourself, but for me, I’m going to try and get it.”

“These pronouns are killing me. Get what?”

“I wish you would keep your eyes open, and then I wouldn’t have to explain.”

“I’m going to count to three, and when I get to one, just blurt out what it is you will get. One.”

“It’s going to be great to capture it.”

“Two.”

“I can almost feel the thing in my mouth as I clamp down.”

“Three.”

“The FedEx truck.”

“Huh? We are running so you can bite the FedEx truck?”

“Not the whole truck. Just the tire. I wanna hear it pop.”

“You are not well, dear brother. You need help.”

“Yeah, sure. Tell me that as you feast on the spoils.”

“What spoils?”

“The Chewy delivery of kibble that the guy will drop when his tire goes kaflooie.”

“Let’s hurry.”

  1. What’s with dogs and delivery trucks? Years back I had a dog that only chased UPS trucks. I swear he could smell them a mile away. It’s one of life’s many mysteries. Well done, John. Perfect capture. 😄

  2. A Chewy box is indeed cause for celebration! Of course, Monk could’ve told these two that not all Chewy boxes carry kibble. Maybe popping the tires on the truck is fit revenge for those deliveries like medicine or dog clothing?!

  3. Good one, John! The things our drivers have to put up with. Our dog climbs into the UPS truck each time. The highlight is when he flings a dog biscuit out the window and then peels out.
