When I was working in organized commerce, I used to look so forward to the weekends. This was a time for family and to forget for a while the pressures back at work. Now that I am pretty much liberated to work twenty-four seven on my own stuff, the appeal of Friday does not have the same cachet. Yes it is nice to put in a full week and try to take some reward for that, but as a writer there never seem to be the opportunity to simply get away. Ideas keep popping up, text needs editing, and other writers need to be paid attention. So although I would like to look forward to a defining day like Friday it just is not in the cards right now. I do remember the sweetness of finishing the week and so I wrote the Haiku in honor of the weekend.

Friday is so far,
Never seems to come too fast . . .
Monday, like the wind.
Hope you have a good weekend.

You to John!

Enjoy your weekend. I agree that being a writer does take some of the weekend magic away.

So true, but it isn’t like we have a gun to our heads. 🙂

Love the picture (of course!) and the haiku! Friday never comes fast enough and Monday is always here before I know it. For the last several weeks, the weekend hasn’t been enough to recharge: Saturday I get back up to around 70% but then I burn it all again on Sunday trying to do all the stuff I won’t be able to do during the work week. So Monday always start on a low charge. My husband and I are counting down for the craziness to end. Enjoy your weekend 🙂

Yeah. it is real hard to work and have a writing life as well. Makes one want a rich uncle. (with heart trouble and no kids)

We are going away for our anniversary this weekend…just down the road to The Cove, but away nonetheless. Have a good one John!

I remember from a previous blog post that Fridays used to hold a special place in your heart. That Monday feeling is pretty desolate. Have a good weekend.

I used to really appreciate the weekend too. Now that has been lost to the fact that I have no weekend. What i do appreciate is the random moments that feel like a weekend. Those moments when things are quiet, the world seems right and you can clear your head and enjoy the beauty around you. I hope you have that kind of weekend.

John, what you say is true, for us writers. But I still like to think of Friday as being POETS day (Piss Off Early Tomorrow’s Saturday), a term we used a lot when I was a 9-5 wage slave, longing for the weekend to start.

Love the haiku, John – and the cat!
As a worker and a writer, I love Friday – it’s the golden moment when regular work ends and my deep-I can devote more than 1 hr a night-writing begins.
Hope you have a great weekend, too.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot today. It never really dies, does it? I’ve been thinking of trying to turn writing into a 9-5 deal, where I only do it then, but I just don’t think that would happen. Some of my best ideas come in the evening, and sometimes that’s the only quiet time.
Whoever said this job would be easy was smoking crack.
Thanks for the friendly validation, John!

I used to do that as well. Now I don’t really have vacations so I work 100% of the time.
