Friday again. (So soon?) I hope you were able to enjoy the holiday and can look forward to a joyous New Year. This brings up the question; what do you plan to do on New Year’s Eve? If you are like me you consider New Year’s Eve as a holiday for amateur party goers and want to stay out-of-the-way. We generally have a nice dinner and talk about the year and more or less set some resolutions. Usually they are pretty rough and no one keeps track until it’s time to report progress the next New Year’s Eve. During the progress report the individual can wiggle a little if the resolution wasn’t kept or accomplished. (to be frank none of us can remember the other’s resolution anyway)
In 2011 I resolved to have my book ready to publish by December 31, 2012. Well, my report in December of 2012 was to the effect I had finished the manuscript and was hunting for a publisher. This year I plan to resolve to get a second book ready for publication. Notice I said “get ready.” There seems to be a lot of time between getting ready and actually being published. For example I just received the final Galley pages for my debut novel (the one I said would be ready to publish on December 31, 2012). I do have an ISBN number so I think the year 2014 will be the year of the launch. I say that with fingers crossed. I’m gonna declare to the family that getting published is also a resolution for 2014.
So there you have it. My resolutions for 2014 are: Finish my second novel to the point of publication and have my first published. I would throw in some words on completing the third novel rough draft, but don’t want to press my luck.
How about you? Do you set resolutions that you intend to keep? Do you keep them?

I don’t usually set resolutions, though I have a fun one for next year that I fully intend keeping. As for New Year’s Eve? Watch DVDs at home and go to bed before twelve with ear plugs so the people shooting fireworks won’t wake me. That makes me sound incredibly old, doesn’t it?

No old would be going outside in your skivvies and shaking your cane at them and yelling “Do you know what time it is?”

My New Year’s resolution is to get one more year closer to retirement. (My holiday is over. I’m back to work so, yup, retirement is on my mind again.) I do hope your first novel is launched in 2014. Cheers 🙂

I never did the resolution thing for some reason. I never felt like I knew what would happen throughout the year, so I just wanted to make it to the end. If anything, I resolved to be a successful indie author by the end of this year and to publish my next 3 books in 2014. That feels like cheating though.

See you are resolution dependent. (or at least goal oriented)

That’s really a new habit born this year.

Funny how wanting to be a self sufficient author drives behavior.

Very much so. Need to be my own boss, which means some organization.

I resolve to continue my pledge to never fall prey to the trap of resolutions.
(Yeah, I’m kind of a jerk. Sorry.)

I like your goals. You keep me inspired.
For me, I suppose I should take a look at what’s attainable, as I’d like to reach my goal this year. Hmm.

I’ll be setting some foggy resolutions in the next few days… Some both reasonable and unreasonable, haha. I too have writing-related goals. *sigh*
I love the feeling of a New Year though… it feels like a fresh start, every time.

I don’t tend to make resolutions, but I do have vague ideas of what I want to shoot for as a year begins. Maybe that makes me an underachiever.
This year I resolve to come up with a suitable resolution for next year…

I think I may publish my second and third book projects this year (soon). Guess what my 2013 resolution was? That’s right, a 2013 deadline. No matter, I resolve to not resolve so much on myself.

Now I’m really keen on doing the whole cane shaking thing – sounds like lots of fun. 😀 I haven’t done a list for years, but I’m looking forward to writing one for 2014 – 2013 has been that educational. All the best wishes to you and your family for a lovely New Year’s Eve celebration, and a wonderful next year!
