#Rave Reviews Book Club Recruitment Day.

a book-club-badge-suggestion-copy-1

Today is Recruitment day for Rave Reviews Book Club. I can’t say enough good things about the club and can only hope if you would like to receive the kind of support I have received you will consider joining.

The club is made up of like-minded authors who believe it is in their best interests to help each other promote the books we have all worked so hard to bring to life. There are a number of ways this help is available:

In addition to having their books listed on the club website each member is eligible for the following:

Every week each member is given a tweet with their handle and a nice word – twice.

Each Tuesday the entire membership is invited to tweet a member who is the #PUSHTUESDAY honoree.

Each week a member is chosen as Member of the Week and receives tweets all week and a website listing.

Each month a member is chosen Member of the Month and is tweeted all month and listed on the website,

Each month three members are chosen as Book of the Month and for the entire month they are recognized and listed on the website. Members are encouraged to buy and review the Books of the Month so you can imagine how sales and reviews go up substantially

Twice a month a member is chosen as Spotlight Author and is feted with a Spotlight Tour that reaches thousands of readers through guest spots on popular members blogs. In addition, the Spotlight Author is interviewed by club President Nonnie Jules on her popular “Who’s on the Shelf” feature.

The #RRBC hashtag is available whenever an author member would like the rest of the membership to support a tweet. In addition there numerous contests drawings and ways an author can help others and get help in return. You also meet some terrific people.

All of this is available for only $25.00 per year.

If this sounds like a program, you could see beneficial to you  go to the website and tell them John W. Howell sent you. Also, you can vote on the best blog in support of recruitment day. Go here and vote http://wp.me/P49Fi9-GG  Thanks

The problem with this and many other groups, John, is that it doesn’t really accept “honest” reviews as readily as it claims, particularly when one of its darlings receives one (and, yes; it has “darlings”).

Also, “swaps” are not allowed, according to the Alliance of Independent Authors Ethical Code (ALLi code and info link: http://www.theindependentpublishingmagazine.com/2014/11/alli-launch-ethical-author-code.html ), which I subscribe to after several such experiences. No more “swaps” for me.

I also felt there was a “bait-and-switch” aspect to this and other groups, which started out free, run by an all-volunteer person or set of individuals, but as soon as it gets larger, it then develops a fee schedule, a Board or Trustees group or whatever they call the clique that runs it, and starts throwing its weight around. Pushed me right out when I couldn’t pay the fee. So much for “support.”

    NO LIKE.

Glad you’ve had a good experience, but I’ve sworn off most such groups.

    Best to you,

    Sally

Sally, RRBC does not sanction nor support review swaps. Not all book club groups operate the same way, so painting them all with the same brush, seems unfair to me. Have a great day!

Well, John, Maybe RRBC has changed its policy, but when I was a member, members were REQUIRED to purchase or download at least 4 times a years other members’ books and review them. What do you call that? I call it a “swap” because everyone has to do it. Maybe it’s not a one:one, in that I may review someone’s book who then does not review mine, but when we are coerced into providing reviews and then informed that we can’t post them or shouldn’t post them unless they’re 3 stars or better, that’s not only a swap system, it’s unethical.

I stand by my remarks since they are based on my experience not only with RRBC but elsewhere.

        Best to you,

        Sally

I love the fact that my blog is a place for honest dialog. You have your opinion Sally and I respect it. I don’t agree but support your right to speak your opinion. Thanks for the comments.

          Thanks, John.

The last thing anyone needs is more censoring of honesty, right?

          Best to you!
