Wednesday Story Day again. Last week Mrs. Worthe struck a deal with Ben to keep his mouth shut about the explosive carryings on which included not seeing Alexis anymore. Ben gave her his word he would say goodbye to Alexis and just when we were about to relax the doctor comes in and announces the priest is here. We need to go back there and continue this drama.
“Hello, I’m Father Lightfoot.”
“Father what?”
“Lightfoot ma’am. I’m a full-blooded Apache.”
“OMG, this can’t get much better. My name is Worthe, Trudy Worthe.”
“Ah yes, I’ve heard about you. May I call you Trudy?”
“You may call me what my daughter calls me. Mrs. Worthe.”
“Oh, okay. Mrs. Worthe it is. Tell me Mrs. Worthe is this your son Ben?”
“No not even close Father. This boy is my daughter’s boyfriend Ben. Or I should say, ex-boy friend.”
“Ex-boyfriend? That’s strange. Why are you here then?”
“I’m a compassionate person Father. Ben is very special to me, and I don’t want him hurt.”
“How noble Mrs. Worthe. Tell me Ben. Why did you want to see a priest.”
“Well, Father, to be honest, I thought I was going to die and needed the last rights.”
“I see my son. Do you still think you are going to die?”
“No Father. I believe the doctor has seen to it that I’m going to make it.”
“Well let’s say a prayer to that end then. Tell me my son when was your last confession?”
“I’m Jewish Father. We confess every hour.”
“Oh. Well, I guess a prayer wouldn’t be out of the question even so.”
“Thank you, father.”
“Let’s pray. Dear lord, please visit upon Ben and help him with his wounds. Help him overcome the physical and well as the mental wounds of his young life. See him sadly through the times of trouble and bless him daily so that he may see the eternal joy of your grace.”
“Father I need help.”
“Ben you better be careful.”
“Father this woman is threatening to cut off my thumb if I tell anyone about her illegal handling of explosives.”
“Ben you are on thin ice now. I suggest you shut up now.”
“Mrs. Worthe what is Ben saying.”
“Father Lighthead this is none of your business.”
“It’s Lightfoot, and I think it is very much part of my business. This young man is calling for help.”
“Look at him. The hospital staff is concerned enough to tie him down. They think he is out of his mind.”
“That may well be Mrs. Worthe. He does deserve to tell his story. Tell me my son. What is bothering you so much.”
“I just told you, Father. This woman is the devil.”
“I see my son. Yes, I see now.”

I think Ben needs to pray for a lightning strike.

“Even your coffee …”: ever so true this morning, when I woke up at 3:35 and could not go back to sleep any more. How did you know the picture was so appropriate this morning? 😉

I had a feeling. I was up at 2:30 myself.

No no more of that kind of contest.

Another cliff hanger. I woke up so early it might have been yesterday.

Next episode “Trudy sharpens her scalpel” I hope Father Lightfoot can help Ben get out of this in one piece.

I do too. Looks like Ben is getting his brave on.

Did not see the Apache priest coming. Fingers crossed that he saves the day.

Yes. I hope so as well.

Why would a Jewish boy be asking for the last rites from a (presumably Catholic but definitely not Jewish) priest?
And why is Fr Lightfoot calling her Mrs Wolfe?
And why is she not objecting or correcting him?
And what has Fr Lightfoot seen that convinces him that Mrs Worthe is the Devil?
“There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don’t know we don’t know.” – Donald Rumsfeld

All good questions. The Mrs. Wolfe item was a typo. Sometimes I move too fast. (Mrs Worthe acts like a Wolfe) More to follow next week.

I know the feeling. My other bugbear is FFS (Fat Finger Syndrome) that often takes the output of my brain and scrambles it before it hits the screen.

I usually do a find and replace when I know I have a problem like Wolfe and Worthe. I didn’t do it.

Or you could lie and say it was a slip on the part of the priest, based on something he saw in her.

Ha ha ha. Not that clever.

I think Ben is going to fall through the ice. Now I’m feeling a little lightheaded. Great photo, John!

Oh nooooo… Ben just can’t say the right things.
This is great, John. Love how you pulled back the request for a priest from an older episode (yes, I know you did that last week, but I forgot to mention). I wonder who will show up next? 😀 Mega hugs.

Well, let’s see. Alexis and her father have been missing for a while. Hugs

I’ve been wondering about dear old dad, and if maybe you have him waiting in the wings to surprise us and save the day at the end. But please, no spoilers. 😀
Back to work with me tomorrow. Have a good night.

It is amazing what you do with dialogue alone – we fill in the rest with our imagination! An Apache priest was a clever touch and seems to fit right into the scene. ER visits are always interesting!

Yes they are. There must be 100 stories in a week’s time.

Interesting how Fr. Lightfoot’s prayer loosened Ben’s tongue. Interesting, too, how we might be treated next to an exorcism!

Ha ha ha. Yeah that prayer did it for sure.
