Wednesday Story Day – AKA – Hump Day

Hump Day

It is Wednesday Story Day again. Last week we left Alice dropping Lucas off at the Widow Murphy’s house. She promised to come back tomorrow and conclude her subduction of the poor boy. She also gave him two bits of advice before driving off. The first was to take a bath and the second to clean up his place. Let’s go back and be surprised who we join. On look, it’s Alice on the car phone.

“Hello, Marcus. What the hell do you want?”
“Hi, Mom. I need some help.”
“Yeah, Of course, you do. Why else would you lower your ass to call me.”
“Come on Mom. You know I’ve been busy with the new job.”
“And before that, it was the new girlfriend.”
“Yeah, speaking of girlfriend.”
“S’matter you and that girl break up? You need mommy to hold your hand?”
“No. It’s not like that. It’s—”
“Don’t tell me you knocked her up?”
“Mom. Listen to me. She’s not knocked up. She’s gone.”
“W-what.? Say that again?”
“She left me, Mom. We had this stupid fight and she left.”
“Slow down, Marcus. Take a breath, son. When did this happen?”
“I went to work and when I got home all her stuff and her car are missing .”
“Steady my boy. What was the fight about?”
“What? The fight? Oh, it was nothing really.”
“Nothing? It must have been something if she left. Is there something you’re not telling me?”
“Okay. I might have pushed her.”
“Pushed her, Marcus? What do you mean pushed her?”
“Uh, she was yelling at me and then hit me and I pushed her away.”
“Then what?”
“She went into the spare room?”
“That’s it?”
“I had a few drinks and went to bed.”
“What about this morning. Did  you tell her you were sorry?”
“I didn’t see her this morning. I got up and went to work. She was still in the spare room.”
“So you never had a chance to apologize. What started the fight in the first place.”
“You don’t want to know.”
“What does that mean?”
“She started in on how I was a momma’s boy—”
“What’s that supposed to mean? Momma’s boy.”
“Easy mom. She was off base okay?”
“I don’t understand what this has to do with me.”
“She wanted me to go with  her to Florida next week and I told her it was your birthday and I didn’t want to miss it.”
“Oh, Marcus you are such a good boy.”
“Yeah, well then she went off on the fact that you  and I are too close.”
“Too close? What did she mean by that?”
“I’m not sure. I think she was jealous cause you are so young and all. Anyway, she’s gone now. It doesn’t matter.”

“Do you need me to come over?”

“I’m okay, Mom. I just needed to talk.”

“Okay, son. I’m sorry. Take care.”

“Sure Mom. Thanks. Bye”

“Bye I love you.”

  1. This looks like a family that has trouble with relationships. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

    1. Thanks, Keith. 🙂

  2. Oh my gosh. It’s turning into a possible mystery now. We have another character and a corpse. Things are thickening quickly. 🙂 — Suzanne

    1. I think you mat have a early version. I eliminated the corpse. (too complex)

  3. Oh, and I love the puppy. My daughter did something similar when a toddler trying to get into her toy box. I heard a little voice saying, “Help.” 😀 — Suzanne

    1. Ha ha ha.Thanks for the laugh, Suzanne.

  4. Gwen Plano · ·

Oh goodness, the story is becoming more complex. The puppy says it all…. 🙂

    1. The puppy does. Thanks, Gwen. Complex is good. 😀

  5. A boy’s best friend is his mother, huh? 😁

    1. Seems that way. Or a mother’s best friend is a boy.

      1. Not sure if that’s more or less creepy.

      2. Ha ha ha. Creepy is as creepy does. 😀

  6. Hmmm, irrelevant side bar??? No, John doesn’t do that. I wonder what this has to do with Lucas? I wonder about that sheriff. How long does it take to pain a house? Must – stop – thinking -until next Wednesday.

    1. Yes. You will get a headache with too much thinking. I’ll tell you why the sidebar. No I think I’ll let you figure it out. Thanks, Dan. 🙂

      1. No offense, but I’m not sure I’d trust you, John. Misdirection seems to be one of your better writing skills.

      2. No offense taken. 😀

  7. These people are not normal. Aw…I love the puppy! Happy Wednesday, John.

    1. Puppy is cute. Normal? Moohahahhaha!

  8. Intriguing. Wonder what will happen next Wednesday.

    1. You must come back. I’ll have a margarita waiting. 😀

  9. Nice puppy, John! Gee, a whole new twist – and more character reveal – a seductive mother who talks trash to her son… and he didn’t want to miss her birthday.. sap.

    1. Sap. Ha ha ha. Thanks, John

  10. And now we get a closer glimpse into the character makeup of Alice. Can we say she is a bit twisted up??

    1. Just a little. Thanks, Jan

  11. I get the feeling Marcus learned the art of manipulation from master-mom. But hmmm… how will it all fit? I’ll tune in again next week for sure! 😀 Have a wonderful Wednesday, John. Mega hugs.

    1. How will it fit indeed. Thanks, Teagan.

  12. Uh-oh. And Alice has her hands full with a troubled young son and a hot young fling. Maybe she should push the girlfriend in Lucas’ direction. 🙂

    1. Hmmm. I’m sure she is a little too possessive to do that. You never know though.

  13. Mom was an interesting wrinkle to the mix.
    Well done, John.

    1. Thanks, Hook. Need to have some context for the next scenes. Oops I’ve said too much.*runs away*

  14. Lots of mom in this story today. Giggle. I am all in with where you’re taking this, John.

    1. Ha ha ha. You were the catalyst.

  15. Oh, oh. I have a feeling she’s going to come over now and surprise her boy–clean up his place too. Ha ha ha ha ha. o_O

    1. That would be a good one, Tess.

      1. I’ll have to wait and see. 😉

  16. Oh heaven help us! “Mommy Dearest! is one very … um …?” Man is she ever screwed up! lol…lovin’ this wicked character, John.

    1. She is screwed up. Can you imagine what Marcus is like?

      1. I can imagine … lol …but it’s your version of what Marcus is like that’s really goin’ to scare me. 🙂

      2. Ha ha ha. Yes it is true.

  17. I have no blessed idea where you’re going with this now. But I have to say, there was a “Girl on the Train” vibe to what Marcus was throwing down.

    1. I think Marcus and Mom have a strange thing happening. We’ll have to see.

  18. Love the puppy! I’m thinking Alice could easily get her own reality show.

  19. Aww, sweet pup! As for the closeness between Alice and her son … pretty gross. No wonder he’s having relationship problems. (I suspect she is, too, huh?!)

  20. Where did she drop the sheriff on the way to take that call? When will we find out what was so important she needed to leave Lucas to go with the Sheriff right as things were heating up?

I feel like I missed a page or two. Taking us off on a tangent this week? I will tune in next week to see how this fits, and where we go from here!

  21. Hmm… a young man who can remember people’s birthdays. That’s suspicious in itself.

    1. I know right? 😀
