It is Wednesday Story Day again, and last week, we were in Jerry’s apartment when all hell broke loose. Someone is outside in the hall shooting at the door. Larry, Andrew, and Jerry move to the back bedroom of the apartment, and Larry lays prone on the floor with a bead on the entrance. Let’s get back there. Since it looks like whoever is out in the hall has decided to come inside.
“Okay, Andrew and Jerry. Stay low.”
“I can’t get much lower, Larry. My buttons are in the way.”
“No time for the jokes right now, Andrew. This is serious shit, and those guys are coming in. What’s left of the door is moving.”
“You three in there. We don’t want to kill you. Just to talk. Throw out your weapons.”
“Not on my life, whoever you are. You want us? Come get us.”
“Don’t be stupid. We have enough firepower to level this place. Lay down your weapons.”
“Are you a history fan?”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“General McAuliffe was asked by the Germans who had him surrounded to surrender at Bastogne. You know what he said in reply?”
“You are a strange duck, detective. I give. What did he say?”
“Nuts.”
“Nuts?”
“Yup. So I say nuts. Lay down your weapons and put your hands on your heads.”
“You must be joking. We have you outnumbered and there is no escape.”
“The way I see it. I can shoot anywhere and not miss. Y’all make a lot of good targets. You want to make my day or what?”
“Yeah, okay, Dirty Harry. I hear some sirens, so I am going to leave you now. I must say you sure are a wiseacre for a cop.”
“You still have the opportunity to give up.”
“Bite me, Detective.”
“Rather, shoot you.”
“Not today. See ya.”
“We are going to find you, and when we do, you’ll be sorry.”
“I think they are gone, Larry.”
“I was just getting warmed up.”
“Do you know who those guys were?”
“I have no idea. I wonder who called the cops.”
“That would be me. sir.”
“Jerry? Good thinking, man.”
“I was scared.”
“Yeah, we all were scared.”
“You didn’t act scared.”
“Just an act, my boy. Just an act.”
Is it me or could these guys do stand-up comedy? “I can’t get much lower, Larry. My buttons are in the way.” LOL! Aw…Lucy looks so sleepy. Nice, John!

The photo of the pups is priceless. ♥ The story is getting pretty intense, and I love the levity in the midst of the danger. Well done, John!

I was expecting this to go all OK Corral, John. Now where do these guys turn? Jerry seems ok, that girl, if she’s still alive might be ok. I’m not sure about her, or the judge for that matter.
You sure these guys can’t hop on a plane and phone the rest of this in? Might be safer. I do like Andrew’s style, laughing in the face of death. The button thing was good, as was the Battle of the Bulge reference.

Thanks, Dan. As a history buff I had to use it. I had a version of the OK Corral but then the story would be in the same place as before. A bunch of bodies and a prickish DA. So I saved the bloodshed for later. A phone in might be possible. 😀 Thanks.

Jill’s right – these guys could do standup if the whole detective gig doesn’t work out. It’s always good to have a backup plan.

Hahahaha. Sounds like a good plan.

Whew! They managed to get out of this one. Safe—for now.
Love the witty dialogue exchanges and how you keep that thread running through the scenes.
Great job!

Wow, the cops are actually showing up. Can’t wait for next week. I have a hunch they’re going to spend some time explaining things.

Yes. This is the second time these two have been involved with mayhem. Thanks, Craig

There is lots more to Jerry than we’ve learned thus far, can’t wait to see where this goes next. And I gotta say, Larry’s coping mechanism whilst under fire is hilarious.

This dialog had me laughing! I wish we knew how it was but glad to hear the sirens.

But where did those guys go after such a display of firepower? Love the humor! Can’t wait to hear the explanations to the cops. Should be good!

It should be good. Maybe a story around giant termites.

Jokes are good for the soul I’m sure I heard that somewhere! Must be, I feel better after writing this! Ah, who knows? Maybe it isn’t good for the soul! Then, if it makes you feel better, the ‘soul’ is probably in on all of that! I saw my soul in a dream last night, crawling around in diapers, and, well, you know where it goes from there! I’m sticking with jokes being good for the soul…although…naw, that wouldn’t be prudent! I’ve had my ‘say’ – just, ‘say’ing!!! Don’t you just love playing with words, good John???

That would be nice. Since I’ve tried, and found that I am not able to write fiction, perhaps if I can be an inspiration, it’s just as good. 😊
