Today, I randomly opened the first book in the Eternal Road series; Eternal Road – The final stop.

I went to page 115 and then pointed to the page with my eyes closed. The word closest to my finger was restaurants, which is the prompt today.

Restaurants by John W. Howell © 2025
“What do you want for dinner?”
“Hmm. Haven’t given it much thought.”
“Well, now is the time since I must go shopping.”
“There’s nothing here for dinner?”
“Nope, the cupboard is totally bare, so to speak.”
“So then that means I can choose anything?”
“Anything within reason.”
“What ya say to going to one of the restaurants we haven’t been to?”
“Normally, I would jump at the chance, but seeing as we are even out of kids’ food, I have to shop. Besides, those places have limited choices.”
“Yeah, that’s true. It’s more of a potluck, depending on what they feel like putting out. Well then, let me think.”
“A major project for you.”
“Sweetness, how nice of you to say.”
“I was being facetious.”
“So was I.”
“Last chance. Otherwise, I will just get what I think will do.”
“When you do that, we tend to have the same thing. How about I go with you?”
“The last time we did that, we came home with too much stuff and all the wrong things.”
“Okay then. I’m leaving it up to you to surprise me. Please, no Zebra this time.”
“You know I like Zebra cause it’s the easiest to catch.”
“Easy isn’t always best. How about a nice Wildebeest?”
“Last time I broke a claw. No, thank you.”
“Okay, I give up. Have fun.”
“Says the king of beasts just before his nap.”
“Kiss, kiss.”

I was beginning to think it was a rat having various dumpsters as ‘restaurants.’ So, dear John, you got me again.

That would have been good. I did want to subtly introduce the human encroachment on the lion’s territory so I did lions. Thanks, GP.

Yeah, it is generally best not to interfere with shopping day.

Full of chuckles and surprises – as always. Hope you have a great day, John, and maybe an unexpected feast. 😊

‘Kiss, kiss’–so lion-y. I was trying to think where you were going with this. Nope. Do not try to get into the mind of John Howell. 😆A good one.

There is stuff in that mind that would scare you for sure. Thanks, Lois.

Shopping must be adventurous for them.

I think it is too, Tim. Thanks.

Poor Mama Lion. Papa gets to snooze while she’s fetching dinner. A woman’s work is never done….

So true. Of course, she doesn’t want him shopping.

It’s good to know lions have things in common with us 😆 Great fun, John.

I was trying to figure out what animal you would hit us with this time. I do feel like the nap[ping King – we went to a restaurant in Kenya that offered zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, crocodile, and lots of other meat – the only place licensed to do so by the government.

Not sure I would enjoy any of those. Thanks Noelle.

Some were tasty but I doubt I would have them on MY menu. I also felt a little guilty eating the meat, but the government will cull some of the herds, I heard.

Well done, John. I guess it’s the same story throughout the animal kingdom. It’s funny watching the birds and critters here. What they eat and what they avoid is interesting.

I can imagine that what they eat is much more than what they avoid.

I just lost my comment… But it probably was not nearly as funny as it sounded in my head anyway. Good one, John. Hugs.

Creative response to a common word. Well done, John. Or I suppose they would have it rare. 😄 It is dinner time. I’ll just stick with a simple salad.

Very wise. Zebra is a little heavy for dinner. 😊

Well done on the prompt, John. There’s a great chapter in the book, The Story of Doctor Dolittle, where the mother lion confronts her husband. This reminded me of that.

King of the Jungle, but his home? Not so much.
At least she gave him options, kinda.
