A football

Friday is here and with it a great longing for a continuation of the Football season. Oh sure, there is the Pro Bowl this weekend and the Super Bowl on February 1st but that is still not what I would consider a continuation of the season. Once all the college games were finished I had this hangover like I had been to too many loud parties but like attending loud parties, I have some good memories. My teams (Notre Dame, Michigan State and Baylor) made the season last as long as they could, but it still came to an end with the victory of Ohio State over the Oregon Ducks. My pro hopes were dashed with the defeat of the Pittsburgh Steelers at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens (spit). I did watch the AFC and NFC championships without having a favorite. It is interesting when you are not emotionally involved in the game you can actually appreciate good plays on either side.(and keep the blood pressure under control) I enjoyed the Green Bay/ Seahawks game because of the come from behind effort by the Seahawks. Friday again and I must say after the holiday last week this Friday seemed to take forever to get here. I don’t think it is my imagination since for whatever reason I really did only work three days last week. I took off New Year’s day to watch the Baylor Bears lose to Michigan State. The funny thing was I graduated from Michigan State and was rooting for the Bears. I should explain. My daughter went to Baylor graduating in 2011 and I guess I wanted to cheer on the place where I spent the most money. I remember when I attended Michigan Stare the cost was $186.00 a term (three terms in the year) for tuition. I think my daughter’s cable bill was higher than that. I won’t go into the obvious relative comparison data like a gallon of gas was nineteen cents just suffice it to say I followed the money on this one. Today’s JohnKu (a term coined by Words4jp) talks to how post vacation weeks are a pain. Hope you like it.

Friday is the best day of the week. I’ll bet a lot of you are attending some kind of office or holiday party tonight. You may even be going to the boss’s house for a get together. If you are invited remember to wipe your feet at the door and don’t spill anything. I wonder who ever thought these things were fun. I remember one event where the boss had us all in for the holiday and I was standing admiring this large vase (pronounced VAHZE) on a pedestal. It was some kind of rare Asian art kind of thing and had its own light. I usually am impressed by things that have their own light. Well, long story short some oaf hit me from behind which caused me to carom into the base. This caused the vase (VAHZE) to begin to teeter back and forth in what could be the beginning of a death spiral Given the vase (VAHZE) cost more than I was worth alive, my life and employment passed before my eyes. When the vase (VAHZE) finally did its bow I caught it before it hit the floor. With shaking hands, I placed it carefully back on the pedestal. As I was adjusting it the boss came by and whispered, “Nice catch. You saved both our asses.” I loved that guy.

Friday at last. This week I had the occasion to walk on the beach and see some of the greatest sun flashes in the surf. I tried to take a video, but it didn’t turn out well since I kept getting the sun in the picture which caused the image to blaze out of focus. I grabbed my trusty iPhone and at least got a picture. The flashes looked like an ocean full of paparazzi all taking photo of the shore. I know this picture doesn’t do the scene justice but hopefully you can get an idea. Wonderful Friday. Such a nice day. Only eight more hours and we can kick back and enjoy the fruits of our labor. I really like lime as a fruit of labor. You can squeeze it, add it to agave distillate juice with some orange liqueur and agave nectar. Toss it into a shaker and shake till ice-cold. Pour into a mason jar, add a slice of lime. Put your feet up while on the veranda and tell the world how much you have earned this little gem. I only have about 1000 words until I can do that later today. Hope you all have a good weekend. I didn’t forget the JohnKu (a term coined by Words4jp). It is called rest. Hope you like it.

Friday at last. This week feels like it has been a long one for sure. I guess whenever I have to travel away from this island the week seems to take forever. I only had a trip to San Antonio on Monday, but for some reason it feels like it was longer ago than just five days. Just shows to go what a little out of the normal activity can do to the perception of time. This week’s JohnKu (a term coined by Words4jp) is about normal. It is titled Routine. I hope you like it

Friday again. Not sure, but I think this has been one fast week. If seems just yesterday that I did the last Friday post but here it is a whole week later. Makes me wonder where the time goes. I find now my time is pretty well-marked by the number of words written. Of course, doing a blog also give some perspective of how fast the time goes by. I usually do the three regular blog posts which act as mileposts for the week. Monday is the Top Ten Things Not to do, Wednesday is the hump day story and Friday is the JohnKu (a term coined by Words4jp). I do throw in a Tuesday and Thursday blog if there is something going on like a blog tour or maybe some information I want to share. On Saturday, I tie into the Stream of Consciousness prompt. As I sit writing it now occurs to me that in essence I am blogging six days a week. Damn, no wonder the time flies. I gotta think about this for a minute. In the meantime, here is the JohnKu for  this week. It is titled Having Fun, I hope you like it.

Friday is here. Happy days are here again, the sky above is clear again. Happy days are here again. Looks like we may all make the week. At least we have a good shot from this point. Eight hours and a margarita is mine. I have noticed a number of posts this week talking about the fall colors. Sitting here on the Gulf I really don’t get much change except for the lawn starts to turn pale with the shortening days. I do notice our Boxer Lucy is sleeping a little later since the sunrise is getting later each day. I think if we lived further North (like Scandinavia) she would never go to sleep in the summer. Today’s JohnKu (a term coined by Words4jp)  is about season change. The title is Stay. I hope you like it

Well, here we are at the close of the week. It is fun to finally get here isn’t it? I think Friday might be my second most favorite day. Saturday is number one, but Friday is a close second. On the Texas coast this will be the first weekend after labor day. This means all the tourists have gone home and we get to have our beaches and town back to normal. It then becomes very peaceful and relaxed. There are only four thousand people on our island. This number can go as high as twenty thousand during the peak crush. So it’s no wonder things seem quiet. I have lived in hugely big cities in my life and I must say it is a treat to experience the peace and quiet of a small town. Todays John Ku (a term coined by Words4jp) hopefully catches the spirit. Looks like Friday has hit us once again. It is a very good thing to be smacked by good ol Friday since the weekend is to follow shortly. I guess the best part of Friday is the realization that within a few hours the choices of what to do are right in your hands. During the work week, many of the choices we have are regulated by what needs to be done at work. The weekend gives us a little more freedom, but yet choices may be limited by other factors. The list of things that have to be done around the house is one thing that limits our ability to choose to do something more pleasant. The end result of working is certain neglected jobs at home that need to be done. Some of these jobs include the laundry, the garden, the lawn, the kids events, the visit of the parents, the pet walk, the cooking, the painting, the windows, the cleaning and on and on. It is a wonder we can get any relaxing done.  Todays JohnKu (a term coined by Words4jp) talks about our two priorities work and life. I hope you like it.
