Since it is a slow week activity-wise, The Producer developed a theme for today’s post. She suggested “Wandering the Neighborhood,” which means seeing a whole lot of different sights as we do just that. Ten Ten of Austin caters to us, and Dion provides entertainment.
Menu
acorn squash, black garlic, baby spinach
roasted cauliflower, eggplant, wild mushroom
smoked tofu, pickled vegetables, shiso
charred hamachi kama black garlic, pickled vegetables
miso king salmon eggplant purée, rice pearls
short rib ume chimichurri
Wagyu New York strip 10oz shiso
pork chop Japanese curry, pickled vegetables
king crab leg chili garlic butter, micros salad
wagyu tenderloin 8oz shiso gremolata
wagyu strip 14oz wasabi peppercorn cream
wagyu ribeye 24oz charcoal salt
The bus is ready.
We’ll start with a lovely red crape myrtle.
There are many hills here, so retaining walls must take on some style.
A red and white crape myrtle.
Rock wall topped with Carolina Jasmine.
Mexican Birds of Paradise.
A deer family in a neighbor’s yard. To the right is the buck making a getaway.
Pink crape myrtle.
A wall of thin rocks with a slate-like look.
A purple giant crape myrtle.
Another wall with a slate-like look made of limestone.
Well, that is our wandering for the week. It’s time to sit back and enjoy the food and music. I hope you have a terrific week.
You certainly live in a beautiful neighbourhood. A great idea. And I enjoyed Dion!

Great views, John. The retaining walls impressed me. Seeing a buck with the family is strange to me. Usually, the bucks hang out together and leave the fawns to the does.

I was surprised too, Tim. When he saw me coming he hoofed it.

As always, great pics in your very colorful neighborhood, John. I love crape myrtles! We have a pink one and a “black” one (dark purple leaves, white flowers) and I’m always happy when they come into bloom each year. Thanks for sharing. (PS, we have NO deer visiting our yard. None. Ever. You are so lucky to be able to enjoy them!)

Those trees in bloom are lovely. The neighborhood had some fine guests too. I hardly ever see deer here so it’s a real treat seeing those in your neighborhood.

A lovely neighborhood with all the crape myrtles. We also have a lot of them because they are hardy and like heat, but we call them crappy myrtles!
That king crab leg looks pretty good today.

I like the name Crappy Myrtles given the mess they make with falling blooms

Those crepe myrtles are truly spectacular. They would not be happy up here, that’s for sure!
Beautiful attention is given to retaining walls and making them look pretty as well as functional. Some people are so good at that.
Love the tune!

John, I can’t get enough of those crepe myrtles!! When I lived in Texas, we had them, too, though they weren’t that large. The ones you’ve pictured are impressive specimens! I had to giggle when I saw the deer — almost looks like they trotted up that driveway to play with the kids’ toys!

I had the same thought about the deer, Debbie. Some of the Crape Myrtles are huge. That purple one is about the biggest though.

It seems strange to me that you don’t have sidewalks, and more importantly, gutters where you are. I recently downloaded a bunch of new music by Dion. He’s in his eighties and still making great music. These were all made in conjunction with other famous folk like Eric Clapton.

Dion is one of those singers who is timeless. I guess it would be strange seeing no sidewalks. People tend to walk in the street.

As you know from your camera work Monika, sometimes it is hard to capture the true beauty. Each year they do blow me away.

Indeed, I sure do, Such pretty trees though I know a lot of people find them invasive and troublesome. Both my sister in Batrop and my daughter in Kingwood says they are a pain and are constantly removing them. But I think they are quite beautiful.

My only beef is with the neighbor’s crepe myrtles. They drop everything on my turf and the blossoms and seed pods are murder to get up.
