Friday is a sweet day and even though I am chained to this key board, I look with envy to all the millions of workers who:
Get up before dawn
Get to commute on average two hours a day along with a couple of million of their closest friends
Get to reach a workplace filled with challenging and rewarding work
Get to take direction from kindly and intelligent managers
Get to hob knob with the cream of the crop of co-workers who all pull their weight
Get to fill out endless forms to request needed business supplies
Get to invent ways to get the job done with no supplies
Get to interface with interesting and sympatric customers
Get to eat lunch at their desk trying not to spill mayo on the Fisk report
Get to feel the pride of having produced great output for the day
Get to feel the accomplishment of surviving with no increase in pay for years
Get to work until well after sundown at the last-minute request of a grateful manager
Get to join the millions of friend on the commute home
Get to arrive home in time to pack on 2000 or so calories before bed on an already stressed body
Get to toss and turn all night in anticipation of a total repeat the next day
So here is to Friday and a wish for a happy weekend for all of you who have Friday as the end of the week. (if that same manager has not asked you to put in a few hours on Saturday)

You make that life sound like so much fun. Thank goodness I never felt drawn to the corporate world. My career (once I start doing it again on completion of my studies) means I’m technically on duty 24/7. but I can work from the comfort of my own home.

Sounds like the best of both worlds

Brings back memories. Think I need a drink and to destroy one of my old ties. Hate those things.

I have a tie collection which needs a trip to Goodwill. Maybe today.

Sad thing is that I have a bunch of superhero ties that I never got to wear. I never found a job where such things were allowed.

I have a set of Tommy Bahama ties that I wore all the time. I had a boss look at me before an officer meeting and ask, “is that tie appropriate?” It was a lobster. After the meeting the Chief Marketing officer admired the tie asked me where I got it. The boss was very pissed off.

Always loved people that were so tight, they were confused and annoyed with any level of relaxation. Like they would explode if they ever took a deep breath.

I wore better clothes than my boss and it pissed her to no end.

If you wore a skirt better than her then I can sort of understand her annoyance. 😉

2000 kcal before bed? Definitely unacceptable 😛

Ha. I wanted to complain about this post (I mean, really, the person I envy is you). But I’m lucky. I actually do work with great, dedicated people, and I generally like the work I do (public health statistics). And my bosses are more concerned about public health than they are about politics. It’s a good place to be for the remaining few years of my “tied-to-the-grindstone.” That said, I won’t miss it when I do leave. I won’t look back. And I definitely won’t miss the commute 😉

Being semi-retire I put myself down for hours when I feel the urge to work a few. It is a good feeling…this retirement thing. I have time to write and do other things, but I do miss the social aspects of having an 8-12.

Yeah the social is to be missed, but all in all the idea of working alone has it’s advantages. Happy Friday to you.

Ugh. My favorite was driving around with millions of my closest friends twice a day. Even better when we got to skate across the icy roads together playing our own little version of bumper cars. And we got to double the time spent in our cars. Yay!
