Friday TGIF and JohnKU

Friday is the best day of the week. I’ll bet a lot of you are attending some kind of office or holiday party tonight. You may even be going to the boss’s house for a get together. If you are invited remember to wipe your feet at the door and don’t spill anything. I wonder who ever thought these things were fun. I remember one event where the boss had us all in for the holiday and I was standing admiring this large vase (pronounced VAHZE) on a pedestal. It was some kind of rare Asian art kind of thing and had its own light. I usually am impressed by things that have their own light. Well, long story short some oaf hit me from behind which caused me to carom into the base. This caused the vase (VAHZE) to begin to teeter back and forth in what could be the beginning of a death spiral Given the vase (VAHZE) cost more than I was worth alive, my life and employment passed before my eyes. When the vase (VAHZE) finally did its bow I caught it before it hit the floor. With shaking hands, I placed it carefully back on the pedestal. As I was adjusting it the boss came by and whispered, “Nice catch. You saved both our asses.” I loved that guy.

Today’s JohnKu (a term coined by Words4jp) is about holiday parties. Hope you enjoy.

Few days of worry,

Attending all the parties . . .

Paid back by the flu.

I think I zombied through those parties. Retail tended to be the best with a simple pizza party. You are right though. Someone always ended up getting sick at these parties.

You too. My beer handling is terrible lately.

It’s weird. Beer destroys me for a day, including the ones that I used to have no problem with. I’m turning into the old man that can only drink whiskey.

One of my neighbors has a brewery in Houston. We were at their house last night and he was serving a beautiful Christmas limited release. (Deep dark and delicious) I could only drink two glasses and felt stuffed. I loved it but couldn’t handle any more. Brought tears to my eyes.

I’ve been trying stouts and heavy stuff lately. Definitely tasty. Could you take any back home?

No but sometimes I come out in the morning and it is like the milkman has made a stop.

What a great story, John! I am so glad our after hours office party days are over. Having to act like I’m happy to be spending my free time with people I already see several hours a day was always such a strain … usually enough to make me drink too much 😉 The upside of working for state government is our office parties are usually casual luncheons (i.e., pot-lucks) in the middle of the day. A lot less stressful. Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend 🙂

Have a great weekend as well. I have been to some pretty wild holiday gatherings and most were at my house. Thanks for the comment.

Nice catch. I expected you had a drink in your hand. Thank goodness, you didn’t. 🙂 Great story. Terrific Haiku.

That’s a good story John. Your life might have turned out quite differently had you not caught the vahze. There were quite a few office parties taking place in the pub I was in yesterday. I was very grateful I don’t have to attend one this year.

I know how you feel. I have been out of the office party scene for two years. They still invite me, but I always have things to do like watching my paint dry.
