Sunday – Fifty-Two Views of the Gulf

Today’s photo was taken near the same place as normal. The dune has been substantially altered to accommodate the new crossover so it is hard to judge. In the foreground is a mound of sand which is about six feet tall. As you can see, it is a lovely morning, and that person in the background is jogging. Those little mounds beyond the red stick are gopher mounds. The next photo is taken from the furthermost spot from the Gulf.

Where you see, the white pipe is where the first walkover was located. That red thing on the left is a front loader. The walkover will take a jog to the left and then come back to the original line. This jog was necessary to not disturb the natural dune. The access to the walkover that will be in the foreground will be one of the last items installed so the workers will be able to maneuver their equipment without tearing up the dune. To give you an idea of size the posts are six by six inches and the tallest 24 feet.

Last week’s photo.

  1. Good morning John. Your commentary makes this a very interesting series. As I recall you at first had some doubts. I’m glad you carried on with it. I’m glad you mentioned how tall the posts are — that added a scale that I didn’t realize. Have a sublime Sunday. Hugs!

  2. This series is turning into one very interesting set. It’s gone from showing how things change naturally and now you have human interference. For me, the whole thing has gone from spotting small, gradual changes to trying to see what has remained the same after an upheaval.

  3. John, I never tire of your views of the Gulf! Looks like definite progress has been made this week. Thank you for pointing out the things we should be focusing on, too — that helps a lot! Enjoy your sunny day — and pity those of us in the teens…with snow!

  4. I’m jealous of the bright and inviting weather. Thanks for the description of work on the beach and the reason why and why not and saving the natural dune. These are enjoyable and chatty conversations for a Sunday. 🙂

  5. I love how you’ve posted the weekly changes that nature has on your vantage point, and will be happy to see the construction of the walk-over completed. I’m sure you will too.
