It is Stream of Consciousness Saturday time again. This week’s prompt is “project.” Linda Hill says we can use it any way we want. (Oh joy). If you would like to join this rag-tag outfit go to Linda’s blog and read the rules, then send each of us a six pack of very expensive beer. Here is the link.

“Attention class. Today we are going to discuss the semester project.”
“Excuse me, Mr. Winther.”
“Yes, Michelle. You have a question?”
“I do sir. Can we select any member of the class to be project team members?”
“Well, although that is a good idea, Michelle this project is going to be an individual project.”
“Oh. You mean we can’t get others to help?”
“You should complete the project on your own. Now class. The first thing we should decide is what each of our projects will be. We should try to avoid any duplication.”
“Mr. Winther, sir.”
“Yes, Michelle?”
“I want to have the first pick of the project I want to do.”
“And why should that be, Michelle?”
“I’m the one with the highest GPA.”
“That’s not how we are doing it. We are going to list the projects on pieces of paper and each student will get a chance to draw their project out of a hat.”
“Mr. Winther?”
“Yes, Michelle.”
“Can I go first to draw?”
“We are going by last name Michelle.”
“That means I will be last.”
“It really doesn’t matter. All the projects are good ones.”
“I hate to be last, and I just know my project will suck.”
“Now Miss Zielinski we do not use language like that in my class.”
“I’m sorry, sir. I got carried away.”
“That is okay. If there are no more questions everyone, please pick a project.”
“I just knew it. My project sucks.”
“Miss Zielinski, please. What is your project?”
” To solve world hunger.”
“Now that is a very nice project, Michelle and If you do it properly, you will have your wings in no time. Let’s not hear any more complaining.”

I remember kids like this on school. Always sucked away a bunch of time and drew things out. No idea how to solve that problem though. There’s enough food on the planet, but distribution is an issue.

Yes. Got to admit the teacher did give Michelle a tough assignment. Maybe there is some retaliation there. 🙂

Well done, John. I can relate to Michelle…always being last. Thanks for reminding me of all of the projects I need to get done this weekend. Happy Saturday! Thanks for the visit yesterday!

Ugh, meanwhile, I was being called first for stuff I never wanted to be a part of. She could have had my place. I hope she does well on the project, though. She gets her wings and we have a happier planet. Nicely done, John.

I think maybe the professor somehow managed to give her the project he wanted, just to get even. 😉 His other class is teaching slight of hand to magicians.
Have a sensational Saturday, John. Mega hugs!

Poor Michelle. No kid wants to be first, but no kid wants to be last either. Sounds like this teacher had her number — well done, John!

As a retired high school teacher, I never believed in assigning topics. I allowed students to choose from a list – or to make up their own to submit for approval. I didn’t care about duplication. Loved the story, John!

The teacher is a saint, a little insane but still a saint. Michelle received a project to keep her out of the teacher’s hair. 😀 😀 😛

I loved it. My favorite line from “It’s a Wonderful Life” was, “teacher says every time a bell rings, and Angel gets it wings.”

Is a great line. Thanks. 🙂

I love it an individual project and you pick the topic out of a hat. Sounds like a good idea to me. 🙂

I imagine it would work. I remember in high school we had impromptu speeches pulled at random and I picked the subject “girls hair.” Made a good case as to why girls hair was longer than boys. Sweat a lot but got an A.

I think it is good to give students the choice of group project or individual. Impromptu speeches would be more difficult. The topic you were given could be embarrassing for a high school boy, so doubly challenging. You are good on your feet. 🙂
