I had originally planned to do a post on the World’s Largest Peace sign which was to be formed on the beach today using human participants. Here is what it looked like last year.
Unfortuately, we had some high tides this weekend, so the event was canceled. So, instead of the peace sign, I thought I would let you know what it means when we have high tides.
This first photo was taken last week and shows what the beach typically looks like.
You’ll have to excuse the gull. Whenever I start taking pictures, they want to make sure I catch them as well. Here is what the beach looked like yesterday was taken from the same place.
Notice the water is covering the sand. The gulls are still in the shot since they can’t stand being left out. To give you an idea of how this affects the happy tourists here is a shot that is directly to the left of the one above.
If you can say “chaos” you have it right. The wooden structure is our cart over leading to the beach.
Just so you can appreciate the misery here is a closer shot of the one above.
Now a shot to the right.
There are always hearty souls willing to make the best of a bad situation. Here are a group of Skidoo fans enjoying the overcast sky.
Also, there are fog worshipers who must love this weather. Hope that have their fog screen on.
I think if you want a serene photo that avoids the carnage on the beach you need to back up a bit.
Ahhhh. That’s better.
Wait! Maybe the solution is to avoid the beach altogether.
Grab a chair or lounge. Here take this margarita and let’s sit a spell.

I’ve never heard of ‘fog worshipers.’ LOL! Sorry to hear the event was canceled, but it definitely looks like a pool day. That first photo is gorgeous, John! Happy Sunday!

Ain’t it the truth? 😀 Bad beach weather is always much more interesting photographically! On the Celtic Sea coast here, they even extend the holiday season by having ‘Storm-watching’ weekends – the surf really is up then – just the water is flippin’ FREEZING!

All of my beach experience is in the Pacific Northwest, and it’s kind of potluck what you’ll find on any given day. I like tide pool exploring and clamming, so that works without sun. Fogscreen is a good idea, you should whip up a batch and head back down there. $5 per jar. Maybe Jason Fogg is visiting your island today.

I’m half way through the comments and find myself going to the fridge for guacamole, and the cabinet for tostitos…and of course I have to wash all that down, so there’s the midnight margarita.

I was wondering where you were standing to get that vantage point of the human peace sign? From up on the walkway I’m guessing now? Or were you in a cherry picker? I’ve wanted a cherry picker for photography on more than one occasion lemme tell ya! 🙂

That angle was from the top of a community shower building on the beach. The event was about three miles from our walkway.
