The neighborhood pirate ship.
Here is the leaderboard where the leading catches are recorded.

When you come in from fishing, volunteers greet your boat.
They take your fish.
And weigh them. (This is a catfish)

Those were some good-sized fish. Great pictures, John. 🙂 — Suzanne

Interesting to see a “day in the life” of that part of the tournament, John. it’s been going for 83 years? Wow. The poster is beautiful. I’m delighted to see the pirate ship is still afloat. 😀 Sunday hugs!

Looks like there’s pretty good fishing at your part of the Gulf. I’m always impressed by the community spirit around these events. And it looks like you had a great day. Thanks for sharing, John.

It’s great to see the photos. I listen to an outdoors show on radio that’s devoted to hunting and fishing, and a lot of the guides from up and down the coast call in to talk about catches, conditions, and so on. I heard them updating this leader board at one point — such fun to see it, and to recognize one boat name. They’re great events. I went to the Poco Bueno in Port O’Connor one year, and had a blast. Thanks for adding some visuals from this one!

Thank you for sharing your experience, Linda. The fisher folks seem to enjoy this one. It is a three day event with lots of social activities.

Looks like a lot of fun. Curious to know what kind of shark was caught. Seems oddly vague just to have ‘shark’ on the list.

Yes, I agree. I think they lump them into one so that there are not too many categories. There would be a lot of shark taken if they broke them out. (my guess)

The process whereby they prep fish has always fascinated me, seeing as how it becomes a project when I undertake it, lol.
And it’s nice to see your goofy side . . .:)

Great tour, John. Since fish and I don’t mix well, I’d sooner see this pictorial tour than be there in person. Enjoy the weekend!

I enjoyed this one a lot, John! Just seeing those BIG fish reminds me of Gulfport. Was that a flounder in your first measuring board photo? And that pirate ship — wow and arrr!!!

That was not a flounder. I missed the flounder photo opportunity. I don’t know what kind it was.

Ah, every neighborhood kid would love to have a Pirate Ship! That one is really neat.
What a neat tradition you have going on there. That’s a nice variety of fish, and some are pretty big!
Did you happen to see the biggest of the day brought in? I wonder what it was and how big it was now?

I’m not sure the winning fish. The grand Champion caught a 39 pound Ling. but I don’t think that was the biggest. The Marlin are caught and released.
