A lot of things are made of rock around here because it is plentiful. I noticed some substantial mailbox’s around the place, so I decided to take some photos of them to share with you.
We do have some squirrels in the neighborhood. Here is a tribute to them.
I haven’t seen any owls yet, but I’m sure they are here.
Looks like a cactus garden and a cactus statue. These guys must love cactus.
This one is unusual. A cup with lips. I could see fighting for coffee in the morning
Here is a burro with horns. (It could also be Bevo the mascot of The University of Texas which is located in Austin. I’ll bet that is it)
Here is a majestic elk standing on an ordinary mailbox.
A parrot. Must be an homage to a family pet. Of course, there are parrots in Austin. I just haven’t seen any around here.
Ah, the regal cat. No explanation is necessary.

That was my first thought, GP. I haven’t heard about a kid doing damage to a physical mailbox for years — even out in the country. They’re probably hacking people’s email, instead.

Interesting pictures John, we have slits in our front door for mail delivery and not external mailboxes but these look amazing. Even the Dali-esque cup with lips.

These are great, John. Please don’t tell our squirrels that people make statues in their honor. We do enough for those buggers. I wonder if the owl keeps critters away? I like stuff made out of stone. It seems so simple, yet beautiful.
I will warn you, if you put “Longhorns” on your mailbox, I might have to stop following.

There is no way I would honor the Longhorns. It is like I’m living in an occupied city. They would be the last team I would support. Viva WVU, Baylor, MSU, Notre Dame and any other team first.

What a fun custom! It says a lot about your neighbors. Don’t know about the cup with lips though, they might be nice people, but approach with caution. Maybe they are warning passers-by that they bite. 🙂

The subdivision I live in has mailboxes in stone pillars. There are two boxes per pillar, and none are allowed decoration of any sort. I guess they look nice, and you can’t knock them over with a bat (like some people have been known to do) or a car, but the morons who installed them put them too far in, so we can’t use the flags that signal mail to be sent.

I noticed that. Not here. Maybe because we have two boxes per pillar. Or maybe because no one thought of it.
The boxes are far enough out in the rest of the neighborhood that those flags work. Ours must have been the first ones in and they didn’t realize the boxes were too deep until too late. At least they corrected the problem for everyone else in the construction-phase.

I LOVE the owl! Interesting that folks there ‘decorate’ their mailboxes — the postal clerks must be immune to them by now. Yes, I do believe that burro is supposed to be Bevo. Bet you’d be the talk of the neighborhood if you put a leprechaun on your box!!

I’ll bet the kids don’t drive by and club those things. Had that problem in Nevada, but I fixed it with some I beams and concrete. So when does the boxer mailbox go up?

If you were going to do something creative on your mailbox I like Shoreacres idea too about the open book, but an homage to the pups would be good too.

Some of those toppers look like they’re just placed on top of the mailboxes. I wonder if they can withstand Chicago winds. The new neighborhood looks green, lush, and woodsy! Good writing place! 🤗
