Ah, delicious Friday. Eight more hours till Saturday eve. I hope your week was a good one.
If you looked in on yesterday’s post, you know we are getting some action on our yard. The way it goes is one day of furious activity and then one day of nothing. I’m sure you all have had the experience of doing business with busy contractors. They have several balls in the air, and so one has to go with the flow. We are supposed to get grass today, but I seriously doubt it since the concrete needs to be poured before the sod. Yeah, yesterday was supposed to be concrete. We shall see.
On my WIP I managed another 1000 per day week. So, now I’m over the 21,000-word mark. The characters are starting their “Let us take the wheel,” program which they always do at this time. The male protagonist wants to go to Wimbleton and find himself on the court facing Roger Federer. I’m not sure that’s going to happen, but it is a fun thought.
Today’s JohnKu talks about letting the characters run with the story. I hope you have a great weekend.
Characters by John W. Howell © 2019
They sit for a while,
Doing everything you write. . .
Till they mutiny
I suspect a contractor’s calendar looks quite different from ours. The steps might be sequential but the timing baffling. The hidden miracle is – you are making notable progress on your book. YAY!

I agree on the progress. One step at a time. As far as contractors are concerned I haven’t a clue as to timing. Thanks, Gwen.

Congratulations on making great progress on your book. I hate it when the characters declare mutiny. 🙂

Isn’t it fun when the characters go off on their own? Plans be damned.

Yup. Out the window with ’em. 😁

Great progress, John. I love when characters try and fight me…I can be even more mean to them. 🙂 Happy Friday!

Maybe the characters took off with the contractors, John. Let’s hope they return together like Little Bopeeps sheep. Have a great weekend. 😀 — Suzanne

Of course, they have no reason. I would be glad to trade places with them. Thanks, Hook.

A contractor’s schedule could be used as the next unbreakable code for the military!! But you’re giving the writing a fantastic effort, congrats!

You are a writing machine! … and wow … Team Howell has done a lot of work at the new home. Congrats! What’s the next project?

Haven’t thought of a next project yet. I think I might bask in the finish of the current. (When done.) Thanks, Frank.

Yes. Relative relaxation is in her wheelhouse.

I did the contractor thing for a while. You’re lucky you have one that eventually come back. I filled in for a couple who just moved on without a word. I’m going to take Lucy’s advice, again. I think I’ll wait for someone else to start the activity today and then I’ll join in.

Good idea to follow Lucy. She has a sixth sense on what to do. I have heard of so many people who have paid money only to be left in the lurch. Thanks, Dan.

I’ve still got my balcony cleared for the pressure washers who were supposed to do their work on Wednesday. We’ll see. Jokes always are based in some degree of reality, and it’s the same with contractors: southern, or otherwise.

Universal, Linda. Just have to roll with it, I suppose.

Boss,
Perfect haiku for how the characters come to life. And what a brilliant way to describe it . . mutiny.

I remember John Cannon (of the trilogy) wanted to carry a gun and shoot someone. I gave him the chance and he threw up. Never to ask again.

LOL.
You have to let them fly, or vomit, on their own.

I both love and hate mutinous characters. I hope you continue your 1,000 words/day streak. And I hope your construction is done soon. Happy weekend!

‘Mutiny’ is a good way of expressing it. At least they gave you the impression you were in charge for the first half, right?!

Way to go, John. 21,000 words means you are have gone too far to stop now! What’s the goal? 100,000? 125,000? Or, if you are like me, about 150,000.

I usually do over 90,000.

I love how characters take over… we think we can push them into a direction and they let us know… nope, not gonna happen (And I’ve only ever written micro-fiction!)

I agree. Mine still wants to go to Wimbleton so that is where we are headed. Thanks, Dale.
