As if the place wasn’t cool enough, every Friday the Lake Travis Community Library hosts a musical performance. This week is was The Southside Sheiks Band
These guys bill themselves as “Raisin’ a ruckus wherever they go, the Southside Sheiks will play old-timey jug band, ragtime, and holler blues.” Other weeks have included a Jazz singer, Pianist, and singer/songwriter. So, come on along. Don’t worry about keeping your voice down, there is enough music going on to cover you. This is a fast view today.
As you can see the reading section has been taken over by the music section.
Another view of the band and the folks having a good time.
It seems like a contradiction, the music and the stacks of books. I noticed there were some people reading along as if the room was totally quiet.
As the clouds roll in we take a pause and view the pond outside the library.
I’ve shown this little boy before. He and his trusty canine are spending some quality time by the pond reading a book.
I hope you enjoyed the quick view today. If you want to check out the complete calendar or just curious about all the library offers, here is a link to the library webpage

We don’t have music at our library here, but there’s the concert on the Marktplatz six times a year in summer, and – what Mary and I really like to go and listen to – the Music Club concerts just around the corner in the Methodist Church every 3rd Sunday, for 8 times a year.
Have a great Sunday,
Pit

They really have very good cultural events here. I mentioned two only, but there are many more. That’s one aspect of Fredericksburg we really like.

A truly wonder-filled post, John. The library is in a beautiful setting! I love that they are hosting music. I got a kick out of the term “holler blues”. I like swamp blues, so why not holler blues. 😀 Have a sublime Sunday. Hugs.

Libraries are great gathering places, and who knows? Someone who comes for the music may stay for the books, and that’s all to the good.

I thnk so too. Plus special programs give a sense of community to the place. Thanks, Linda

Yup. Will be Singer-songwriter Jennifer Fuentes who will entertain with her soulful, vibrant voice and captivating stage presence by blending pop, Latin, blues, jazz, country, rock, and Motown. Man, she works it.

Sadly I live far, far away from you, John, and there are no libraries or events like this in South Africa.

Darn. When you are the equilvalent of J.K. Rowling and you have a book signing here you can take in a performance. (Don’t forget the cake) 😁

John, you had me at “music.” No, maybe it was “library.” Whatever, the combination of the two is wonderful, and I’m glad to see it was a well-attended performance. Probably better than some book-signings, huh??
