Another Friday in isolation. It’s no surprise that the number of cases is going up. Not sure everyone takes the warnings seriously. I read about those 70 some odd kids going on spring break to Cabo San Lucas after the CDC advised against travel. Well, we have 44 darlings all tanned and self-satisfied, fanning out in the population with the virus. These kids ought to have their butts kicked after their parents get the same treatment.
I wonder how you are all doing? I hope you are able to cope with the continuing shortages at the store and the long hours with the family. I have to admit there have been some pretty funny memes going around. I guess when times get tough a little humor is the best thing. I liked this one.

The mayor of Houston finally had enough and got creative. He ordered every basketball hoop in the city removed, as a way of discouraging the kids (from 14 to 34, apparently) from gathering for games. There are a lot of people who still haven’t learned that behavior has consequences.
On the good side of the ledger? When I went to the grocery store yesterday, it was clear that things are settling down a bit. There were far fewer people, the baskets weren’t heaped high, and I could find everything I wanted: even produce, dairy, and chicken. Fresh salad greens were the highlight. I might even have a salad for breakfast!

My day to day life hasn’t changed all that much … I never went out a lot anyway. Just now I can’t get any groceries unless friends go foraging for me (so grateful to those friends). And dear hubby is around a lot more! lols. Great Haiku, John. I wish more folks would follow the lockdown, because then we could all end it sooner. Have a lovely weekend 🙂

It’s both busy and boring. Spending most of my time doing schoolwork with my son and for my students. Then I just collapse at night and on the weekend.

The school system in Austin gave all students laptops and then set up WiFi hotspots using school busses in areas where internet service was spotty. Amazing.

A lot of schools supplies chromebooks or iPads. My son’s school did a device survey beforehand too.

Hunkered down up here in Canada, picking away at jobs around the house. I have a 1000 piece puzzle on the go that is kicking my butt but I just keep working away at it. I figure I’ve got time😂. Happy Friday John!

Oh I know and the town has four serious cases (out of 3000 people) That mayor (who I never liked when I lived there) should have been more worried about the townspeople than the friggen income from spring break. He should have called it off. No, he waited until the county took responsibility thus saving his butt from criticism. “Sorry you are losing money now but It’s not my fault.” Typical politician. Gutless wonder.

Safely hunkered down here, John … and have been for three weeks now! Yes, I still have to get out sparingly for groceries and such, but I sterilize real good when I return. I’d line up to kick those kids’ bottoms, too — sure, they want to have fun, but these are unprecedented times, and their “fun” could very well lead to someone’s death. Stay safe, everybody!

We’re doing fine physically and hanging in there mentally. Crystal has to eat prescription hypoallergenic food. Since they’ve had it on back order a few times over the years, I already keep plenty on hand. As for me, being picky with food and supplies was a luxury for most of my life. So I adapt. PS: It’s fine for the kids to go party for spring break. They just need to have to stay there and not come back until all this is over. When the alcohol and drugs run out, it won’t be any fun. Might teach them something when they’re all stuck with each other and have to stay there indefinitely.

I don’t know what it’s going to take to get everyone on board. Both the younguns who think they are “invincible” and the old ones who feel it’s “their right” to keep going out. When this is all over – and we are far from that point – I can only hope we are a more enlightened species.

Yup, every day seems the same, especially when you’re retired. There does seem to be a difference in that’s it forced rather than voluntary. At least it seems that way from all the millennials in my neighborhood. They whine about it as they wander around trying to figure out how to pass the time. Stay well and keep smiling.

Life hasn’t changed much in our house. My husband still works and I’m at home as always:) We do feel the shortages though and having to gear up to shop now. I do miss hugging my grandchildren and was happy with a distant wave this week. I know it will all pass if we all do that right thing.

The meme cracked me up. Ha ha ha. To be honest, my life looked like quarantine before. And darn those people who aren’t taking the “stay at home” orders seriously. They’re just going to prolong this thing, so instead of seeing the end of it this summer, it’s going to be extended indefinitely with a bunch more sad families. The dogs are cute and great distractions. Enjoy them.

Hello John. I think it’s extraordinary that most people in the world are pulling together and taking this seriously and I think it brings people together. I feel a unity with people all over. I also think that others are slower to understand what’s happening. But I’ve seen a big change here in the last 2 weeks, just with the people about, definitely keeping their distance, though I’ve been in my house most of the time except for a trip to the grocery store and to the drive-through bank today. Hope you are doing well and staying healthy 🙂

Yes my goal is to not go out for at least 2 weeks after tomorrow but the delivery schedule is jammed and no slots are available for 2 weeks out. I got up at 5:30 last week and got the last open slot for April 14…

This may not be a popular opinion. Yes, all those spring breakers were stupid. But it’s an age appropriate stupidity. If we’re mad at them it’s like being mad at a pig for having a short neck. At that age everyone believes they are invulnerable and nothing bad will ever happen to them. It’s the blissful ignorance of youth that is developmentally normal. Can we older folks say with any certainty that we might not have done the same when we were 20 and didn’t want to lose the money we put down?

All good points, Phil yet I wish the parents who most likely funded this venture had thought it through. There is no defense for them. The tour company shares the responsibility. Back to your pig analogy. Would a reasonable person allow a pig to run wild on the road? Such permissiveness would endanger the pig and the hapless soul who hit it.

Thank goodness my two kids are old enough to know better. My son is super serious, as clean as his wife, and works from home. They don’t have to home school as the daughter was a Senior in HS. My daughter has a husband who works at home, is super careful, and wears a mask and disposable gloves when he goes grocery shopping. They wipe down the groceries and then use Clorox and water to wipe down the inside surfaces. She said their two cats probably wonder why they spend more time at home. It seems Twiggy is always ready to play. Poor Lucy. 😀 — Suzanne

Doing well here, John. My life hasn’t changed that much. Although I’m going to have to look for more out of the way places to hike. Everyone, it seems “needs” to get out! The trails I would normally hike on are suddenly populated with more and more people where before the shelter in place order I’d rarely see anyone out on them.
I wore a homemade the last few times out and I’m glad I did! One trail was a single track and I came across a whopping 15 people! Only one other person was wearing a mask.
Deeper into the desert I go!
