It is Stream of Consciousness Saturday time again, and here is Linda Hill to describe this week’s prompt. “Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “more than a hundred.” Write your post inspired by something you have more than a hundred of in your home right now. Enjoy!”
Thanks, Linda. If you would like to enjoy working a prompt visit Linda’s blog and read how simple it is. Here is the link.
More Than a Hundred by John W. Howell © 2020.
“You have the prompt for this week?”
“Yes. It is ‘more than a hundred.”‘
“More than a hundred what?”
“More than a hundred anything.”
“Okay, you. need to explain that.”
“We are supposed to write about something we have more than a hundred in the house right now.”
“So, you are writing about ants?”
“Very funny. We don’t have ants.”
“What are you writing about then?”
“I thought about beer.”
“What a surprise.”
“The problem is I only have a six-pack of Butte Black Porter, and that is only 72 ounces.”
“Bummer. Want to make it only 60 ounces?”
“You leave my beer alone.”
“Okay, so what are you going to write about?”
“I thought about pills.”
“Oh, good one. That old writer fart must have a thousand.”
“But not exciting.”
“Does money work?”
“That’s a little better, but I don’t have a hundred dollars.”
“Who said dollars? How about pennies?”
“I do have a jar full.”
“There you go.”
“What inspires me about pennies? Hmmm.”
“You could go on all day about how to turn pennies into dollars.”
“Or pennies into jewelry.”
“Or penny loafers.”
“What?”
“That’s right, you are too young to know about penny loafers.”
“I have an idea. I will do a treatise on the history of the penny.”
“Okay. Time for me to leave.”
“Where you going?”
“To spend some quality time in a dark place trading hundreds of pennies for cold beer and peanuts.”
“I’ll bet we have a hundred peanuts around here.”
“This post is done. You coming with me?”
“Can you wait until I count the peanuts?”
“No.”
“Sure, I’m coming with you.”
Good post. I don’t have one hundred pennies. I expect more and more people will have less than one hundred coins from now on.

There seems to be a coin shortage since COVID has kept coin workers away from work. Thanks for the visit, Linda.

Careful with those pennies. There’s that whole coin shortage thing. Still not sure how that came about.

I think COVID kept workers from making enough coins. Hard to believe but that’s what I heard. 😁

Makes sense. Has anybody tried pilfering wishing wells and public fountains?

I could see the video now. “You sir in the fountain drop the pennies and put your hands up.”

I thought ants first as well, but like you – I don’t have any. The next I thought of 100 books, but actually I have over 400 and didn’t know what sort of story I could make of that. So, I’m at a loss once again, my friend.

Wow, 400 books, GP. That is something. You get a free pass with that many. 😁

There’s a coin shortage now, John. But I don’t think they want us all to turn in our jars of pennies. But hey, 550 will buy a Corona at the bar. A couple thousand will buy an 18-pack. Maybe…
I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend.

I have more than a hundred books on my Kindle, does that count?

Sure, but only if you read them all. 😁

Pennies or bar, pennies or bar, pennies or bar ? Even though some would say this discussion makes cents. It is senseless to go on. Bar.

Bar usually wins, John. Thanks

We easily have more than 100 pennies. We throw them in a jar and dole them out to the grandkids Not just pennies, though – silver coins, too. Great post and such fun to read.

LOL. Great post, John. One day, probably sometime soon, our coins will disappear. What’s going to happen to all our jars–of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters? Hmm. Maybe it is time to buy some beer! 😀

You can go on E-Bay and sell all those jars. 😁

Here in Canada, we no longer use pennies, though I’ve a jar-full. I’ve been rolling them to eventually bring them to the bank.
You always make me smile with these prompts.

Another entertaining response to the prompt, John! On an interesting note, every store I go into, I see a sign asking customers to use correct change or cards because there is a national coin shortage. Hmmmm. Could be all of us who have hoarded pennies all these years. 🙂

Or the workers can’t get to work to make the coins. I’ll bet there is no work at home for the mint.

*snort* … good one, John, and I’m old enough to remember actually putting pennies in my loafers. Not sure why we did that, but I remember getting a pair of loafers that were so stiff, I couldn’t fit the penny in. I tried but gave up in frustration 😉

I could never figure out what the pennies were doing there. Even in those days they didn’t buy much. Maybe it was for luck. Thanks, Marie. 😊

Great job, John, and I don’t keep pennies anymore – I prefer quarters. 🙂 I do remember penny loafers, though, which I suppose is not a good thing. 😀
